Title: Ok. So I am thinking of coaching MPRD rec league grade school b-ball
Post by: Kat Kid on March 12, 2007, 10:26:58 AM
Next year.  I look at this as a great jumping off point in the eventual road to securing a mid-major coaching job.

MPRD rec league--------teaching degree/asst. coach at small school--Quick, staggering success--Oust head couch in power play--win state title--get middling major high school job----turn them around from underachievers to league co-champs---another state championship---b-ball camp circuit---name circulated as "up and comer"-----asst. coach for Delonte Hill @ UNC after Roy retires and KSU has capped off three straight final four runs with one N'tl Championship-----Head coach at Witchita St./Mo St./Creighton/Tulsa etc.

It all starts with my basic defensive/offensive strategy.

I call it the Box and One.  It consists of four players in a very loose match-up man v. man with two guys at the blocks and two at the bottom of the circle.  Our best offensive player stands at mid-court and waits for his outlet pass.

Thoughts?  Questions?

No thoughts on your 75-year plan, but a couple of my friends coached for the MPRD and really enjoyed it.

It'd be easier to just father a high-profile basketball recruit.  That's the route I plan on taking.

keep in mind there is no shot clock in MPRD so this only has to work about 6-7 times before we can hold it.

Free throws will be HUGE.

How have your dates with Claire Coggins and the girls been going?

I like the strategy.  Keep in mind that parents/coaches of the opposing teams will probably beat you after the games.

Claire isn't interested in my type if you know what I mean.

Parents of youth athletes suck.

Go triangle and two so you can have an outlet on both sides of the floor.

Also, see what you can do to get in good graces at the MPRD offices to stack your team.  Its not like the MPRD is known for being above reproach.

I don't think I have any slush fund/money laundering knowledge so I think it might be a tough sell.  These are not the type of people impressed by flowers and candy.

Maybe, but I'm serious when I say standing at mid court.

Practices will consist of 4 on 5 defensive drills, baseball throw outlet passes, lay-up drills, free-throws and lay-ups for the offensive player.
