Title: Looking back...
Post by: ksu_FAN on March 12, 2007, 09:31:39 AM
OOC games:

OOC “should wins”: W & M, Tenn Tech, Coppin St., @ CSU, Clev. St., @ NDSU, Kennesaw, Mary-ES, Chicago St.  Projected: 9-0.  Finished 8-1.
OOC “toss-ups”: @ Rutgers, @ New Mexico, USC in Vegas, WSU (NM) in Vegas, @ Xavier.  Projected: 2-3.  Finished 3-2.
OOC "likely losses": @ Cal. Projected: 0-1.  Finished 0-1.

Projected OOC: 11-4.  Finished 11-4.

Big 12 games:

Big 12 “should wins”: Tech, Baylor, @ ISU, NU, MU, CU, @ NU, ISU, OU.  Projected: 8-1.  Finished 7-2.
Big 12 “toss-ups”: @ MU, ku, @ CU. Projected 1-2.  Finished 2-1.
Big 12 “likely losses”: @ aTm, @ UT, @ ku, @ OSU. Projected: 1-3.  Finished 1-3.

Projected Big 12: 10-6, tie for 4th in the Big 12.  Finished 10-6, alone in 4th.

Big 12 Tournament in OKC:

Projected 2-1. Finished 1-1.

Projected overall record: 23-11.  #8 seed in the Dance.  Finished 22-11, #2 seed in the NIT.

I underprojected a few teams and way overestimated CU, but in the end the difference in the dance was the one less win in OKC.  Of course I was banking on a tie for 4th and a likely 5th seed in the Big 12 tournament and I would've never imagined a 10-6 team (K-State or not) with a win in OKC not making the dance.  Now we have the make chicken salad.

Would we have been better off if Texas Tech doesn't lose to Nebraska at home?  Or Baylor on the road?  Or at Mizzou?  It might have made our win over Tech "count".

I think what you really underestimated was how weak the Big XII North as a whole would be viewed (and it's mostly legit).

i think ksu did what they could have to be an "in" bubble team in most years.  this year it just happened that there were a lot of teams with records that in most years would get them in.  everyone can´t go.

You're right "everyone" can't go.  ONly 188 out of 189 teams over an 8 year period go.   That is definately NOT everyone.

Misery smacked he Hogs.

Nubbsters beat the Jays.

Quit letting Lunardi and the rest of them tell you something that isn't true.

I was amazed at how many teams with 21-11, 22-10 type records were in this year.  Tons of teams in that neighborhood.

FWIW, this year there were 104 teams with 20 wins.  In the past the most there have ever been was 78.

I did underestimate the north.  I thought it would be down, but not as down as it was.  Again, CU was way worse than I thought, I put way too much stock into Roby being back and too little in Patton's lame duck status.  Also didn't know their only other significant returning player would be suspended 1st semester then redshirt.  I think MU, NU, and ISU finished about where I expected.

Arbitrarily picking a criteria warps your perception of things.

What do you think top 30 RPI Mo St. has been saying the past two years now?

I understand that Wins and Losses are probably the most concrete assessment, but the tourney committee clearly places other things higher because all wins are clearly not considered equally.  Bottom line is this:  Bob Huggins and Ron Prince have been wildly successful so far and the expectations of fans have been pretty unreasonable.

"He got us Bob Huggins and Ron Prince who both took us to post-season play after 11 years and 2 years of droughts in both sports respectively."

This time last year Weiser was being criticized because he wasn't lobbying hard enough for an NIT bid.  This meant he wasn't *supporting the program* to those who made the critique.  Then, he went out and hired Bob Huggins.  Actions speak louder than words.  Bob Huggins would say this..."Handle the stuff you are responsible for and you can't complain about your results".

Oh, I'm sure people could find a way to blame Weiser/Weiberg/Lunardi/Duke/Eastcoastbias for our losses to ku, NU, OSU, CSU, NM, etc.

Looking back on the memory of
The dance we shared beneath the stars above
For a moment all the world was right
How could I have known you'd ever say goodbye
And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance
Holding you I held everything
For a moment wasn't I the king
But if I'd only known how the king would fall
Hey who's to say you know I might have changed it all
And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance
Yes my life is better left to chance
I could have missed the pain but I'd of had to miss the dance

I was called an idiot on GP for not thinking anyone left out had a legit shot at the Final Four or National Title.  The conspiracy theories on GP are hilarious/borderline disturbing today.

The road is long
There are mountains in our way
But we climb steps every day

Love lift us up where we belong
Where the eagles cry, on a mountain high
Love lift us up where we belong
Far from the world we know
Up where the clear winds blow

Time goes by
No time to cry
Life’s you and I, alive, baby

Shoud I be scared that we had the same thought, ECN?

I was expecting a little Garth Brooks discussion....would be a nice break from this basketball crap.

This one seems a little more appropriate:

Quote
We call them cool
Those hearts that have no scars to show
The ones that never do let go
And risk the tables being turned

We call them fools
Who have to dance within the flame
Who chance the sorrow and the shame
That always comes with getting burned

But you've got to be tough when consumed by desire
'Cause it's not enough just to stand outside the fire

We call them strong
Those who can face this world alone
Who seem to get by on their own
Those who will never take the fall

We call them weak
Who are unable to resist
The slightest chance love might exist
And for that forsake it all

They're so hell-bent on giving ,walking a wire
Convinced it's not living if you stand outside the fire

Standing outside the fire
Standing outside the fire
Life is not tried, it is merely survived
If you're standing outside the fire

There's this love that is burning
Deep in my soul
Constantly yearning to get out of control
Wanting to fly higher and higher
I can't abide
Standing outside the fire

Standing outside the fire
Standing outside the fire
Life is not tried, it is merely survived
If you're standing outside the fire

Standing outside the fire
Standing outside the fire
Life is not tried, it is merely survived
If you're standing outside the fire

Hilarious!!!  After the non-selection show I was driving to the in-laws and that song came on the radio.  Somehow I think fatty should turn this into a youtube video.

If you want to feel even worse -- think about what might have been had Bill Walker been allowed to start the season with the team rather than having to wait for Kennesaw State since the NCAA Clearinghouse took too long....
