Title: Was Larry Reid overrated?
Post by: michigancat on January 25, 2006, 10:12:59 AM
00-01:  11.2 ppg, 3.8 apg, 3.2 rpg, 35.8% FG, 33% 3FG
01-02:  14.2 ppg, 5.3 apg, 2.9 rpg, 39% FG, 34.2% 3FG

Compare his stats to Cortez Groves:

98-99: 9.9 ppg, 2.0 apg, 3.2 rpg, 35.7% FG, 35.8% 3FG
99-00:  16.1 ppg, 2.5 apg, 2.1 rpg, 38% FG, 37.4% 3FG

Perhaps Cortez Groves is just underrated.

You'll have to ask those that vote on it.

Groves was HM all league his SR year.

Reid was HM his JR year and 2nd/3rd team his SR year.

Groves averaged 16 his final year but put up 127 more shots than anyone else on the team and averaged 2.5 assists per game.  Reid averaged 14 his final year, put up 136 more shots than anyone else, but averaged 5.3 assists.  I'd say the biggest difference came in those assist numbers and that Reid seemed to help his teammates more with similar talent around him.

For some reason, this is making me daydream about Nick Williams playing at K-State for four years.

 :violin:

Have we ran a pick and roll since Larry Reid left?

If you played for Asbury, you automatically sucked.

Seriously, Ayome "Paco" May is one of my Top 5 K-Staters in the era of basketball I've been able to watch.  If he hadn't gotten sick, I think he would've been a key player his last couple of years.  He seemed to be a humble, hard working kid that was on his way to be pretty good.  Similar to Cartier Martin IMO, but not as big or quite as talented.

My Top 5 (not necessarily the best 5) in "my" era (last 13 years):

Anthony Beane OR Cartier Martin  (CM probably will pass my all-time favorite K-State hoops player by the time he's through.  Sadly enough, my dog is named Beane.)
Elliot Hatcher
Paco May
Jeremiah Massey

I always loved Tyrone Davis.

Davis may be tied for 5th with Massey.  I will never forget Ty running back on the court giving high 5's to the students then helping lead us to a key victory over Missouri in 96.

Was Ski Jones in the last 13 years?  I'm so old it all starts to blend together, but if he was, put him on your f'n list...

Ski was a SR my freshman year.  I really liked Ski, he was a great shooter, but off that team Anthony Beane was the man.  Ski would make the Top 10, not Top 5. :)
