From July 29th (one day after his legal issues were resolved)
Guard Tyree Evans wanted to play basketball in the state of Kansas. Butler County Community College might not be his first choice. But his first choice might not be a dead issue after all.
Kansas State might be willing to give Evans a shot down the road, Wildcats athletic director Tim Weiser said Friday. Earlier this month, Weiser indicated that Evans, who at the time was facing serious legal issues, wouldn't be a good fit for K-State.
In the future, Weiser might have a different opinion, especially now that Evans' future from a legal standpoint has become clearer.
"I certainly wouldn't want to eliminate the possibility or hope from Tyree's standpoint that one day he might be a good fit for us," Weiser said. "I'd have to see evidence that some of the issues I was concerned about are no longer a factor."

Great find! I was wondering how much crow might have to be eaten over this, but it appears that that dinner has already been consumed.
-
Great find. I don't remember this at all. That is much different than his comments a couple weeks earlier than that.
-
Timeline is clear:
July 29th:
"I certainly wouldn't want to eliminate the possibility or hope from Tyree's standpoint that one day he might be a good fit for us," Weiser said. "I'd have to see evidence that some of the issues I was concerned about are no longer a factor."
July 13th:
"We have made a decision to no longer recruit Tyree Evans," he said.
Last I knew, the 29th was after the 13th.

Huggins now runs the AD department.
Weiser changed tune after Huggins confronted him that this was his department.
He just allows Weiser to make publicity statements about chicken throwing.
-
friggin genius move.
weiser outsourced his job, but kept his paycheck and benefits. guy has serious smarts.

What makes Tyree different from Tyler Hughes (except the part about being a good basketball player)?
I'm all for giving guys second chances- don't get me wrong. I just think this is solid evidence that the Tyler Hughes episode was a case of opening up a scholie and nothing more. That had almost nothing to do with his past transgressions and everything to do with Bill Walker.

One major difference is that Evans isn't a sex offender.
Maybank came long after Hughes was released, too, so I don't think you can lay that on Bill Walker.

Hughes was trying desperately to work into Huggs system. He had hit the weightroom hard with Greenawalt. Then the crap hit the fan. A registered sex offender. Hidden by whom? Him? His folks? Asst Coaches? Wooley? Don't know but a huge difference. The Athletic Dept and Huggs had no choice but to let him go.

Good point(s). Well taken. Like I said- I'm all for second chances.

I don't know how long tyler was on the list but I remember Paul morrison issued a statement that said something along the line that the process took several years.
-
When the Hughes news came out -- I thought I remembered reading an article that said that Hughes never mentioned any potential issues to the coaches during his recruitment, so no one but the Hughes family may have known until he finally hit the registry.

personally, i dislike that hughes was kicked off the team. put him in jail or let him live his life.
