I was really struck by the bit in bold.
First things first when constructing prospective lineups for a Huggins-led squad:
(1) Great defensive players will play a TON of minutes, even if they can't shoot a lick.
(2) Guys with non-stop motors who go to war under the boards and hit the floor going after every loose ball will be in the rotation, even if they can't shoot a lick.
(3) Super athletic guys will usally get most of the playing time on the wings, while slow but highly skilled guys will usually come of the bench for 'instant offense'.
(4) With the exception of McDonalds all-americans, freshman rarely play big minutes until January rolls around. Most freshman spend their first two months in Huggins doghouse, learning that defense/rebounding/effort are the way to earn playing time, not jump shots and dunks.
(5) Someone will go AWOL around Christmas break. When/if that player returns, he will develop into one of Huggins favorite players and a team leader.
