Ouch. That is if we can get by Texas Tech.
The good news is that we are the ONLY TEAM that was able to beat Texas on their home floor this season. If they had beat us they'd have a 30 or something game long win streak at home. So that Texas win is looking better and better.
-
Sidenote: Unless Texas wins in Lawrence.
-
Take out that texas win, and ksu hasn't beaten anyone.
-
with the HUGE assumption that we can get past Tech, I think we have a shot at ku. 3rd times a charm, right?
-
okay...
can i get an update on the standings?
top 5 only.
thx.
-
Yep. ku will actually win the conference instead of backdooring their way in. There's no way UT wins in Lawrence. The hand check foul that gets called on whomever is guarding Durant will be nonexistent in Lawrence. Not to mention that Augustine is going to get slapped for 40 minutes by chalmers and the alien.

One thing I don't understand;
We beat Texas in Austin (helps our RPI more since we won on the road)
We lost to A&M in College Station (doesn't hurt our RPI so much because we lost on the road)
..And yet our RPI drops after Texas beats A&M.

Thank Jim Wooldridge for the horrifying OOC schedule.
It's killing our RPI

I really must laugh.
Several years ago they were supposed to reemphasize the "hand check" . . . yet North Carolina and Duke are two of the worst hand checking teams, with ku following up in 3rd in the country.
I don't understand how refs can call so many non-existent fouls down low, sometimes the mere appearance of what they might think could have been a foul get called.
Yet certain teams are allowed to blatantly hand check out in the front court right in front of the refs.

Am I the only one that is psyched to get to play Texas Tech again, and posslibly winning that to go on to play ku? I think we really should have played much better against t-tech the first time, and I"ve always wanted to get that one back. Having a third opportunity to get a W over ku is a bonus. I'll be heading down to the big 12 tournament to see these games for sure.

Yes...at least on the second part. I'd rather play aTm or UT again.
Still, why does everyone consider a ku win over UT a foregone conclusion?
-
"Why does everyone consider a ku win a foregone conclusion?"
They blew us out, and we couldn't beat them at home with a lead at half in front of the best crowd that's been in manhattan for a bball game in about 20 years .

meh. I meant over UT. I'll edit it.

yeah, I think uT matches up with their size very well and could be more physical down low. Wright on Durrant is a great matchup.
If the refs swallow their whistles ku runs away with it. If it is called tight Texas has more than a shot.

Take out the KSU wins, and ku hasn't beaten anyone in conference.
Their best conference win outside KSU is 6th place Mizzou. WOW!
#3 in the nation, and out in the 2nd round. :)
-
KSU's their best conf. win because the big 12 sucks and will probably only get 3 births.

And Mizzou's their next best win because they lost to Tech and A&M.
Who knows, if they beat Texas Sat., then ku will be more than one spot above us in the Big 12 Tourney seedings.

50 in a 100 yrs now thats ELITE :woohoo:

I'd be surprised if UT is within 10. I know they have a ton of talent, and when you have a player like Durant, anything is possible, but UT is going to go into an environment that is tougher than any place they've played (although not as tough as Bramlage) and UT (specifically Durant) won't get the same calls he's accustomed to getting. If he shoots more than 10 FT's, I'd be shocked. And Chalmers and the Alien are going to hand check the hell out of Augustine (more so than A&m was doing last night).
-
This is turning into a nightmare...
The only thing that could make it worse is getting to the semi's, then losing to ku, then getting an "NIT INVITE" only to play and lose to WSU at home.

A&M won there under similar circumstances.

I know this is going to sound very "conspiracy theorist" of me, but I think one of the big reasons Texas has so much success is because every time an opposing player so much as brushes against Durant, a foul is called. The Big XII does not want him to be exposed to physical play whatsoever. This results in a lot of foul trouble for opposing players, an eventually freethrows for Texas.
They won't get those same calls against ku. If there's any team the refs will let get away with those 'brushes' against him, it's ku. They get away with more handchecks and hacking than any other team in the conference by far.
When Texas doesn't have the invisible bubble around Kevin Durant placed there by the officials, they're not going to win nearly as often, especially against a good team like Kansas.

A&M won because Bill self is a terrible crunch time coach.

A&M won because Bill self is a terrible crunch time coach.
That and Billy G is a &@#%ing genius. Seriously. Not only was he smart about winning the game @ku, but did you see last night how, when down 3 and fouled, he damn near came back AGAIN in second overtime? A&M should have lost in regulation, but because of Billy G(And Acie Law) they took it to OT. Then they should have lost in OT, but again Acie "I've got huge &@#%ing balls" Law bails them out. Second overtime, when up by 3 Rick Barnes makes a smart decision and fouls Acie before he can get the three up with like 1 second left. He sinks the first FT, and then before any player in a Texas uniform is even paying attention tosses it up and hits rim. A&M gets the rebound and last shot, down 2.
Now, they missed it, but that's execution and not coaching. The point is that Billy G is ready for ANY situation, and so are his players. Not to mention he's EXCELLENT at developing players. Remember last year when we beat A&M at home and they had a shot to win it..TWICE? Guess who took those shots? Acie Law. And he was wide open both times, and missed. Now, only a year later, Law makes those shots double teamed and blindfolded.
Huggs was right. We have a lot of really good coaches in the Big XII. My personal favorites, not in any particular order, are Bob Knight, Bob Huggins, Rick Barnes, and Billy Gillespie. I really like Jeff Capel too, so given some time to build at OU he may join this list.

He really is, I meant to put that.

Yes Bill Self really sucked in crunch time at Mancrappin

Oh, yours was fine, too.
Just a crapload of Wendy Whiners.

It may not be as good for our NCAA chances, but I would like to see our seniors get yet another shot at ku. We don't match up as well with ku as aTM or UT (or anyone else for that matter), but a "winning team" as Huggs is pursuing should want to play the very best IMO.

I'm not sure what Billy Gillespie has to do with Acie Law draining 25-footers at the buzzer with a hand in his face.

They never would have been in that position if Billy G hadn't told his players to "hack-a-shaq" Kaun.
