Title: Who guards Boggan?
Post by: kougar24 on February 27, 2007, 11:02:53 AM
He's only listed at 6'7". Do we start Colon on him? Even if so, Colon will sit within the first four minutes, so then what? Cartier? Akeem?

In this case, I actually think we put Cartier on him, even though his fouling tendencies in the paint still worry me. Where does Hoskins fit in?

Also, is that Kenny Cooper guy any good? He started last game; he's 6'10". If he starts again, we'll have to put Colon on him, and Martin on Boggan.

Will Akeem guard Curry?

Here's how I see our matchups, pending I'm right on our starting lineup of course:

Stewart -> Harris
Harris -> Hatch
Wright -> Curry
Hoskins -> Boggan
Colon -> Cooper

OT: is it senior day at OSU

That looks sound, maybe switch Stew and Harris.

I do like that OSU isn't a great 3 PT shooting team outside of Harris and Curry.  I think we start off with Colon in there to have some help on Boggan.  If that doesn't work, get Martin in quick.

Yeah, I don't know anything about Harris or Hatch for OSU. Those are a toss-up to me.

Harris can shoot.

And Hatch, well, see for yourself:

Call me crazy, but I think JB could be the key to this game defensively.  I look for Colon and JB to see a lot of minutes tonight in order to limit Boggan, Monds, Cooper inside.  If we limit them in the paint, the stats suggest they won't beat us from the outside.

LOL.

So Harris on Harris action tonight, then.

And after the past couple games, I wouldn't count on seeing a whole lot of JB tonight. It may happen, but I wouldn't touch that bet with a 10-foot pole.

Eaton should be the guy that starts at PG for OSU, but he's really struggled lately so it will be Curry.  I'm surprised Hatch is listed as a starter.

Eaton didn't start last game. OSU's starters vs. Tech were who I have listed above.

I think Rusty meant Hatch has been starting.

Point noted on the lack of JB action the last 2 games.  Huggs made several statements regarding match-up issues with ku and CU for JB ( and I agree with it 100%).  But OSU is a much better match up for JB and our team.  In several games (Texas especially), JB altered the game in the paint-which will be critical tonight imo.

Boggan's a bit like Durant in that he's going to put up good numbers no matter who you put on him.  You just hope you can kind of slow that sort of player down while avoiding letting anyone else on the team heat up enough to beat you.  I expect D by committee on Boggan just like we did with Durant.

Monds and Cooper are far worse matchups for us.  No one but Colon has the size and strength to hang with those two, we really need 40 minutes from him tonight which obviously won't happen.

I think this might be a game JB plays some in and we bring the 1-3-1 back out.  Not sure if we'll use the version with Clent in the middle like vs ku or with JB in the middle and our smallest guy at the bottom.  Neither are traditional zones and as long as we know where OSU's shooters are they could help us.  Gives us another option to use against OSU if we're having trouble with man.  If this is a tight ballgame at the 10 minute mark and we haven't seen it yet, we'll see zone at some point.  I would think it would be a great change of pace vs OSU.

Great point the on the zone.  Would really make them beat us from the outside-same strategy we used to beat UT and UT is much better team from 3.

Yep, good point about the zone but I doubt we'll see much JB tonight.  No way he can keep Cooper and Monds off the glass, he just doesn't have the strength.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a little matchup zone thrown in once in awhile.

David Monds?  We're worried about David Monds?

Rusty,

We worry about everything-especially Hatch's doo :loly:

We could worry about Cooper but he's sort of vanished in Big XII play.

I said earlier this week that i would love to play ZONE if Hatch is in there.  He hangs around on the perimeter and rarely shoots it.  We could almost leave him wide open until he hits one.  That would allow us to really match up with Curry/Harris

I have this fear that Hatch will go "Chris Walker (http://www.bevosports.com/2006/03/01/aggie-chris-walker-makes-a-bad-decision-2/)" on us.

5/6 10pts in the first half?  Yes, we should be worried about him.   :frown:
