Self, Gillispie, Barnes, Anderson.
-
Capel is about to find out who the COY is on Saturday. My only reasoning I can see for leaving Huggins out is that Capel hates white people.
-
Capel looks like he likes to whine a lot. I have not watched OU but for 5 minutes this year, so I have no factual bais for this, but I will continue to think it is true otherwise.
Jeff Capel

Neither Self nor Anderson have any argument for why they should be COY. Anderson has more talent than KSU (just ask Fan) and yet he got swept by us. Self has so much talent that he should be miles and miles ahead of everyone else in the Big XII. Barnes has Durant, maybe he should get COY for being able to get the kid to go to UT. Gillespie is really the only guy I can understand getting it over Huggins...

Self doesn't?
Having the inside track at his first league title works for me. Does Self have talent? Yes and it was him that got the talent there. COY should include being rewarded for good recruiting.
That doesn't mean that Capel and Anderson aren't racist dogs.

It isn't hard to recruit to ku. Notice I said that Barnes might deserve it simply for getting Durant to UT but Self recently flopped as far as recruiting for this passed year. He should be outright winning the conference with his talent level. Gillespie deserves it.

Wait. Self has so much talent he should be outright winning the league (which he'll probably do) but at the same time Self has flopped in recruiting for this passed year? How does signing a McD AA center and a 4 star = flopping?
-
The reason Self doesn't deserve COY is because he's falling short of expectations as far as the regular season goes.
Coming into the season, ku was supposed to dominate the conference and possibly go undefeated through conference play. Yet they will be in second place after losing at home to a tough but inferior (at least talent wise) A&M team.
Gillespie definitely deserves COY. After that you can begin talk of Huggins, Barnes, Self as runners up.
Sidenote: LOL. Did anyone else notice NU fans clamoring for Sadler to be COY?

I hate you. Self recruited out of his ass the passed three years and should be outright winning the league (which he won't). But this year, his recruiting class isn't even in the top 25. An elite program like ku (their words, not mine) should always have a recruiting class in the top 25. Reed is one rank away from being a three star and Aldrich dropped down from a five star to a four star. While Self got out-recruited for guys like Singler, Bayless, and Sutton.

Really? I thought it was something along the lines of "If Sadler wins 2 more games this year, he should be unanymous choice for COY." And it was like 4 games ago.

I thought win out. Maybe not.. NU fans tend to be some pretty delusional fans..

I think Gillespie has done a better job than Self plus the head to head win at ku with inferior talent. I don't think you can hold Self's recruiting against him but even if he ends up winning the conference I think Gillespie has done a better job. I think only the top 4 teams' coaches have a legitimate argument. Huggins has done everything Anderson has plus some with the exception of getting Hannah.

He didn't sign a Top 25 recruiting class because he only signed 2 recruits. :blank:
ku swept the North this year and is arguably the hottest team in the nation right now (what better time is there?). Your attempting to put objectivity in the equation which unfortunately rarely factors in.
Having said that I will freely admit that I believe Jeff Capel to be a chameleon, lemon-headed, coward, terrorist pussy.

UCLA signed only two recruits and is fourteenth. Gonzaga signed three and is thirteenth. UT 3 at 16. NC State 3 at 19. Michigan 3 at 20. G'Town 2 at 23. Bama 3 at 24. They had three open scholarships but didn't use one because three different players rejected their offers. They weren't going to even offer Reed but they got denied by Singler and Bayless. And Reed would have gone to UNC if given an offer anyway.
Hottest team in the nation is pretty lame seeing on how they haven't played anybody worth a @#%$ since Texas A&M and they lost that game. They have only one top 25 RPI win all year. K-State is a good team but isn't a team that ku should be bragging about beating just yet. Self has underachieved so far this year. That is all.

:crybaby: So...we aren't worth a @#$%??? I love you K-State.....no matter what waks says....

We are decent but we aren't a good enough team for a team to make a case for being "the hottest team in the country" over.
-
25-4, 12-2 in conference, inside track on winning the Big XII outright and defeated the defending national champs. Definitely unachieved. Waks quit being a cockhead.

A&M is 24-4, 12-2 in the conference plus a win over "the hottest team in the country" but you are saying Self would deserve it more? Go over to the Phog. They expected to win a national championship this year. A lot of "experts" expected the same thing. They came in ranked at #2 in the nation. They probably won't even be a one seed. They have underachieved. They are most likely not going to win the Big XII. A&M has the tie break against them and will be favored in both of their remaining games. Thus ku would not be Big XII champs. Why is this so hard for you?
And the correct term would be Glans penis.

Maybe I'm misinformed, but how does ku have an "inside track" for the conference title? (Just for clarification). They don't control their own destiny -- that belongs to aTm.
(And yes, I know if they tie, its "officially" a split title, but everyone knows that aTm would be the real champs with identical records and an aggie victory in the h-to-h match-up.)
-
Capel is just jealous. Huggie will take it out on 'em on Sat.
-
Also,
Mike Anderson for COY in Big XII is funnier than Mitch Hedberg.
RIP Mitch.

I don't know if you've been misinformed or not (my guess is that you're partly slow and probably misinformed as well) but...ku has tonight (currently beating OU by 15 in 1st half) and home vs. UT on Saturday. A&M has to go to Austin and hosts MU. Of those 4 games A&M @ UT is the biggest at risk. If both teams win out they tie for the conf championship, if A&M loses @ UT, ku wins conf championship, and if both teams split they tie for conf championship.

h-to-h says who gets the 1 seed. Aggies will be favored over UT in Austin. Thus Aggies are still in the driver's seat. And it is only a seven point ball game now.

anyone who says anything other than billy clyde is on crack.

COY should be awarded to the coach who has maximized everything within his control.
Huggins should have it hands down. Mediocre talent-maximized wins. Rejunvinated a program which has been down for 20 years. Recruited the best talent available for this season-no control over Walker's injury. From what I understand from this Board he has restored an enthusiasm in KSU's basketball program.

I think Gillespie and Huggins have to be the front runners, but both still have work to do. If we finish 11-5, it will be very difficult not to give it to Huggins, though I could easily see a 14-2 and conference champion aTm getting it for Gillespie. The if one or the other of these coaches teams lose, then it becomes an easier choice, but it has to be between those two.

When do they actually decide COY? before or after the big 12 tourney, or is after the NCAA tourney?

The league (coaches) should announce their awards Monday, March 5th, before the tournament starts.
That will included player of the year, defensive player, newcomer, freshman, coach, 1st team, 2nd team, 3rd team, HM, all-defensive team, and all rookie team.

25-4, 12-2 in conference
= underachieving, for ku this year.
I don't think you understand how good their talent is.

I don't think you understand how good their talent is.
I don't think you understand that I do understand more than just how good their talent is.
I also understand how Big XII COY voting works.
When did the amount of talent a team has ever matter in determining COY in the Big XII?
It has, just not in the way you presume it to.
Look at the COY's in the Big XII-
1996-97 Roy Williams, Kansas w/ Raef, Big XII POY
1997-98 Eddie Sutton, Oklahoma State
1998-99 Rick Barnes, Texas
1999-00 Larry Eustachy, Iowa State w/ Fizer, Big XII POY
2000-01 Larry Eustachy, Iowa State w/ Tinsley, Big XII POY
2001-02 Roy Williams, Kansas w/ Gooden, Big XII POY
2002-03 Rick Barnes, Texas
2003-04 Eddie Sutton, Oklahoma State w/ Tony Allen, Big XII POY
2004-05 Billy Gillispie, Texas A&M
2005-06 Bill Self, Kansas
In 5 of the league's 10 years, the Big XII COY coached the Big XII's POY.
COY has been won by either ku, OSU, or UT in 7 of the league's 10 years -the teams with year in and year out the most talent. You can throw in Eustachy's 99-00 and 00-01 COY as being considered top talent teams as well considering that they not only had the POY both years, they also won the league both years.
I never said Self deserved it more than Gillispie (Link?).
My point is that it is impossible to say that ku has underachieved when they:
a) defeated the defending national champion.
b) are in line to at the very least share the Big XII regular season championship and quite possibly win it outright with a A&M loss @ UT.
c) are playing for a #1 seed in the NCAA tourney.
d) there are only 2 teams in the nation with better records, both by just 1 win (#1 tOSU & #2 UCLA).
GMAFB I hate ku as much as the next guy but I'm not going to go a Powertard. They're exactly where we (the ones who realize that undefeated seasons belong to the 76 Hoosiers) thought they would be at the start of the season- getting ready to win the Big XII and playing for the #1 NCAA seed. Seems to me they've achieved.
