Title: TV tomorrow, interesing analyst...
Post by: ksu_FAN on February 26, 2007, 01:37:40 PM
Game Information:

Tipoff: 8:05 p.m. Central

Series: Kansas State leads 68-43
(OSU leads 25-24 in Stillwater, Okla.)

TV: ESPN Plus

Talent: Dave Armstrong (Play-by-Play)
and Doug Gottlieb (Analyst)

Channels: KMCI (Kansas City), KSAS, Eagle (Wichita), KSNT (Topeka)

Radio: K-State Sports Network (31 affiliates),
Yahoo! Radio
Talent: Wyatt Thompson (Play-by-Play) and Stan Weber (Analyst)

I wonder what kind of take we'll get with his OSU connections.  Has Gottlieb done any other Big 12 games this year?  Interesting.

Ditto, it's WOW SHADY ARTHUR that I can't stand...

Please God, don't let Armstrong get ahold of any stupid nicknames for OSU or KSU players.

Actually, I'd love to hear Armstrong call Maybank "Murda" the whole game. :)

I don't get the Armstrong hate.  His bad puns always warrant at least a chuckle a game.

I've probably heard him call more games than any announcer in history.  I don't mind him one bit.

I think he does a better job doing Jayhawk TV games than Stan and Ben do on FSN games.

Stan and Ben were just horrible this year.  Give me Dave and Splitt over them any day.

Splitt is good people and does a very good job.  Only Sunvold is better IMO.

Color guys are really a matter of what style you prefer IMO, and everyone has an opinion.

There aren't many regional teams that do a better job than Dave and Splitt.

Spend a Saturday afternoon flipping through GamePlan and FSN and there are some real humdingers.

I just can't take the "Shady" thing..other than that, he's fine.

I like Jon Sunvold, splitt, etc..

Can't stand Pipes and Fred White (MissourUH).

Love listening to Mike Kelly on Radio...don't like pretty much anyone else in the Big 12.

Listening to Armstrong and Piper do the ku/KSU game two years ago was just painful.  They commented on the game about 4 times, the rest was talking about ku's seniors and AFH's anniversary...meanwhile it was a close ball game.

I don't mind armstrong outside of when he calls ku games.

Dave Armstrong and Dave Logan (a true legend in Denver) on the Prime Sports Network.  RIP Prime.

I really think Splittorff is the best analyst on the air, in both baseball and basketball.  His knowledge, breakdown, preparation, and tone are top-notch, and he never overwhelms the event, nor talks too much for the play-by-play guy to do his job.  We're fortunate to get him for Big 12 hoops and Royals baseball.

I hope Gottlieb becomes the Fran Fraschilla of the Big 12.  He does a great job, IMO.

I was kind of hoping Eddie Sutton would join them for a while last night.  He did during the MU/OSU game and I was very impressed...granted, it was pretty much his team he was commenting on, but he sounded like a coach and not like an annoying talking head.

Agree.  Besides at the end when he couldn't do the math ("they just cut it to 6"), he was great.

I am a big fan of Fred White doing play-by-play but maybe that's because I grew up with him doing KSU games.  Splitt and Sundvold both do great jobs and I think Gottlieb is very good.  Armstrong is fair at best, and unbearable at ku games.  Piper is OK, but an obvious ku homer.

We have very good regional announcers around here.  Listen to some of the other regional announcers sometime when MetroSports is playing an east or west coast game, and you'll see that we're pretty lucky to have what we have.
