Title: Mizzou and the NCAA tournament?
Post by: WildCatzPhreak on February 21, 2007, 11:02:50 AM
Reality or far fetched dream concocted by overzealous MU fans?

I'm thinking the latter.

Nebraska has an equal (or better) shot.  Neither makes it though.

Missouri’s biggest obstacle is us!  K-State!  It is similar to our problem with Texas Tech.  When the NCAA Selection Committee gets around to choosing between programs they have every reason in the world to choose K-State over Missouri because we beat them twice, including once on their own floor.  Texas Tech has the same advantage over us because they beat us on our floor.  For Missouri to sneak in the NCAA Tourney they would have to take six B12 teams and I don’t see that happening.

That's why I'd like to have another shot at Tech in the B12 tourney.

I'd rather have a shot against A&M than Tech.  Give us someone like Mizzou, Nebraska, Oklahoma, or Iowa State for the first game.  It'll be tough, but we should come out ahead.  Then A&M.  The risk reward is great for us.  If we lose to A&M, we're supposed to.  If we beat them, we're a lock.  The same could be said for Kansas, but we're a hell of a lot more likely to beat A&M than we are ku.

aTm has 1 win in the history of the Big 12 Tournament.

KSU is 0-5 vs ku, 0-2 vs Tech, 0-1 vs OU, and 0-1 vs ISU.  KSU is 1-1 vs CU, 1-0 vs BU, 1-0 vs NU, 1-0 vs MU, and 2-0 vs aTm.  KSU has never played OSU or UT in the conference tournament.

Of course those stats are for the most part meaningless this year.  :)

Extremely bad luck, extremely bad coaches, and mediocre-bad talent.

We've played ku in the 2nd round all those times.  And lost.  :frown:

Thanks Rusty.  I thought one of those might have been a non-2nd round game, but I was too lazy to look it up so I just assumed.  :)

Lucky we had missouri early, but I also wish we had Kansas early. Kansas was playing like an average team from the start of conference play to the A&M game, but after the A&M game they have been beating team by 27 points on average. Where as before the A&M game they lost two in confrence beating teams by an average of 11.

In 1999, we were the #7 seed, beat #10 A&M, then beat #2 Mizzou, and lost to #3 ku on Saturday in Kemper.  I believe that's our only semi-finals appearance in the Big 12 tournament.  Until this year.
