How do you think the top `Cat football player of all time is? Some that come to mind are, in no certain order:
Lynn Dickey
Steve Grogan
Don Calhoun
Gary Spani
Paul Coffman
Michael Bishop
Terrance Newman
Darren Sproles
I'm sure I've forgotten a few, but in order to make the list, I was thinking you would have to:
1. Be an All American
and/or
2. Have a extremely successful NFL career
My vote.....Steve Grogan. Toughest SOB I can remember to put on a uniform.
-
Best? Bishop. End.
I could careless about NFL.
-
Bishop was the guy that got people "talking" about KSU.
still to this day everyone remembers michael bishop and his cannon arm and tendency to run through 250 MLB's
-
Martin!!!!!!!!
-
I'm more of a Roberson over Bishop guy.
Terrance Newman is the best player every to play at KSU.
-

end of thread. I don't know why anyone would try to make an argument otherwise.

If you never saw the pounding Grogan took back in the 70's, it's easy to go w/a modern day player. But, Grogan was an animal. He had a excellent college career, followed with a Super Bowl NFL career playing for New England.
I agree that Bishop got national attention. But, he played on great TEAM's. Grogan didn't, and still shined.

That fumble still gives me nightmares.
-
Newman hands down
-
You guys have one? What about that crazy kicker named Marty. He's the one that always hurts himself after making a extra point. He gets my vote.. ;)

Spani clearly belongs in this discussion. Guy was crazy good.
His teams weren't of course.

Chad May might argue that point, then he'd hit you in the head with a bottle of Crown.
-
The easiest way to judge would be to just limit it to the guys from K-State that have won the Heisman. After all, if they were the best player in the country that year, they should be in the conversation.
So go ahead and list the Heisman winners from K-State and I'll help you rank them.

it's Spani -- you youngsters have no idea.

hey dumbass, that was his brother, you know, the one who DID NOT go to KSU
Grogan, no doubt. You youngsters don't know diddly.

It's funny you mention that because just the opposite is true for Nebraska. Your most famous (maybe infamous) player is Lawrence Phillips, who pops up in the headlines every six months. He never won anything except maybe a bail reduction hearing.
I mean, the guy played for Nebraska in the mid-90s, and yet still we have to read "Lawrence Phillips, former University of Nebraska football player, was arrested and booked on [fill in blank] last night" every six months.

Phillips should have won the Heisman that year. He was one of the the most dominant college running backs I've ever seen.

Crazy what controlled roid rage can do on a football field.

Nah, just crazy what crazy can do on a football field. You should try recruiting some.
Or just start with players with testicles.

I'd rather not have an alum that tried to run over three kids at a park because he lost in a pick-up game.

He's also an alum that helped us to win back to back National Championships. So it's kind of a trade-off. ;)

LOL Katkid.

It's difficult to rank what I believe are the top three in Grogan, Spani, and Newman. But, I still gotta give it to Grogan.
It always amazed me that Spani was such a fantastic middle linebacker, and he played under 230lbs, and had an undersized D-Line in front of him. I think Spani was about 225lbs, and we had nose guards playing at around 225lbs. I know players weren't as big back then, but if the O-Linemen were 265+, that's a lot of weight to give up.

FWIW, The Saturn ION Coupe was at one point the fastest front wheel drive car in the Nation
Lisa kubo's Saturn Ion ran the quickest elapsed time ever by a Pro FWD car in NHRA competition. kubo is qualified in the No. 1 position after posting an elapsed time 8.028 seconds at 186.12 mph.

Roberson beat USC, NU twice(and in lincoln) and Drilled the greatest college football team of all time.
Had he not had the "incedent" he would be remembered in much better light.
And won 11 games 2 times. Had he not gotten hurt he might have won the heisman.

True. He also wasn't the passer Bish was. And "imo" he had better offensive weapons around him.

5th all time in passing
2nd all time in rushing for ksu.
definately didn't have the recievers bishop had, or the offensive line. Or the defense.

Sproles vs Hickson?? LOL!!
2003 o-line>>>>>>1998 o-line
Mcdonald = Terry
Lockett sucked once bish left.
Stop it. Ell was great, he wasn't bish.

along the lines of fatty, Let's keep in mind that Ell benefited from 4 years in the system. Bishop's '98 season stats are unreal.
In 2002 Ell benefited from the deepest, greatest and most-productive Offensive line/running back/full back combos in K-State history. Travis Wilson, Ayo Saba and Victor Mann. Seriously. Go back and look at the Colorado game, we schemed the crap out of them with the "Vince Young play" the read play without a running back with Wilson killing people on Roberson sweeps.
Brian Goolsby? Please!

Did Lynn Dickey win the Heisman? He went on the have a decent pro career, but was not as dominant of a player in college as Crouch was.

Why are you here? Go away. Who gives a #*%t about Slouch? Go discuss this weenie on a nu board.

I didn't bring up Crouch. A previous poster did. Pay attention.

still doesn't explain why you're obsessed with a KSU board.

At least he had a pro career.
-
I thought a lot about this.
I agree with fatty (God the world is going to end soon). Bishop had the most weapons. You could easily make an NC team with players from 1997-2003 and win a championship, but if you made that team up, there is no way you don't put Bishop in the huddle. Roberson could easily do the same thing, but Bishop was far more athletic.
If not for that fumble...
-
Crouch won the Heisman as a lifetime achievment award and you know it. If Rex Grossman had been a senior that year the trophy was his.
Passing stats: 105-189 (55.6%) 7 TD's 10 INT (nice)
Rushing: 1115 yrds 5.5 YPC, 18 TD. The rushing stats are strong but Heisman? Bull.
Grossman should have won it, hell McGahee and Dorsey didn't help their causes by splitting the vote but they did get their revenge in the Rose Bowl.
-

A K-State fan accusing someone else of obsession? That's a little like Hitler telling someone that they need to be more sensitive to those of other ethnicities.
How many K-State posts here revolve around Nebraska? How much of the discussion concerns Nebraska? Yet the amusing thing is that you're not a rival, or even in the same league. Just a bug on our windshield really.

Very little discussion.

Bishop because he had the ability and competitiveness to take over games.

Very little discussion.
Multiple threads on the first page of this forum alone. Then multiple threads where the discussion turned to talk of Nebraska.
This should be called the "We Wish We Were Bold and Daring Like Nebraska" Forum.
