Title: This is the type of people you are dealing with at ku:
Post by: sonofdaxjones on February 19, 2007, 12:24:13 AM
Their AD literally tossed the former women's basketball coach and a former ku women's AA under the bus when they were reporting all their wrong doings to the NCAA.   Keep in mind KthUg attempted to get away with what amounted to nothing but tiny slaps on the wrest with their football and MEN's basketball program, but here's what the NCAA had to say about what they did too Women's hoops:

"wholly disproportionate" (to the violations that occurred)

ku took away TWO rides from Women's hoops, but only took 1 ride from Football (and just limited JC recruiting) and NO rides from basketball . . . when it was clear as hell, and the NCAA said so that the women's program at ku had barely done anything wrong.

It was all posturing to make it look like KthUg was getting "tough" . . . by leveling the heaviest sanctions against a brand new coach who had NOTHING to do with any wrong doing (you could barely even call it wrong doing), while trying to obfuscate the situation and protect two coaches who had rampant cheating going on under their nose.

This is the type of an administration that your average KthUg fan supports.

...and you support a losing, second-tier program, even after your own AD disassociated you from the university.

What's your point?

Translation:  I'll defend my school's cheating with personal attacks.  Just win, right BMW??  I am glad that my athletic department tried to toss the one program who really didn't cheat much under the bus to make it look like we were getting tough on the cheating ways of our men's basketball program and football program.

KthUg basketball:  Proudly serving almost as many probationary periods as Kentucky and UNLV combined.

No one's perfect.  Why should ku be any different?

Classic KthUg response.

That's one thing the rest of the world has known way beyond your years.  You're average KthUg fan is always willing to point their boney little fingers at everybody else.  But when KthUg gets caught cheating (again, and again, and again) it's always, "nobody is perfect" "everybody does it".

Classic KthUg.

That's because it's true.

K-State is tied for 3rd all-time in major violations.  What's your excuse?

One, whenever its been found that ANY coaches were involved the last four times in MAJOR violations, the ENTIRE coaching staff was FIRED.

Also, MAJOR sports at KSU have only been on probation 5 times, basketball only ONCE.   Major sports at ku have been on PROBATION NINE times, and basketball FIVE times by itself.

The last time a major sport at KSU was sanctioned with a loss of scholarship, postseason, visits etc. etc. was 30 years ago.

And NO . . . not everybody goes FIVE years without a proper compliance office, and NO, not every AD says, "Compliance doesn't sell tickets" . . . and NO, NOT EVERYBODY commits academic fraud.

Lew Perkins and ku self-reported the violations.  Gene Marsh, Committee on Infractions chairman had this to say after the investigation was finished:

“The current director of athletics should be recognized for his good and effective work since he came on in the summer of 2003,” Marsh said. “In our view, he’s made all the right moves since taking the job and has helped the school a great deal in its compliance effort.”

Face it, 'Pad, you're just pissed because all ku got was a slap on the wrist.  Perkins has made ku the most profitable athletic department in the entire Big 12.  Give it up.

Dax will prove this wrong when he sees it tomorrow. Dax actually uses real numbers and doesn't just throw crap like that out there. If you are going to make outlandish claims, you might want to offer some evidence of the claim or atleast give a couple of numbers.

I don't know how you would define "profitable."  Athletic departments don't put out P&L statements.  Although Perkins has nearly doubled revenues, Texas, Oklahoma and Nebraska all have much larger athletic budgets than ku.

http://www.kansan.com/stories/2006/dec/07/davison/

However, none of this has much to do with the topic. Before Perkins, the athletic department was not tending to business. We didn't even have a compliance staff worthy of the name.  Perkins is running a much tighter ship.

BTW, Sono, you're facts are wrong.  ku did lose a men's basketball scholarship.

Don't forget that they have squawks in addition to KthUgs.

ku lost one MBB scholie because the NCAA took it away.  The premise of the original post was that ku's SELF-IMPOSED sanctions included no lost scholies for MBB and two for WBB.

The point is that the ku athletic administration tried to whitewash the NCAA.  Imagine if two Oklahoma football players got caught making huge paychecks for time they didn't work and Joe Castiglione took scholarships away from the track program so that he could tell the NCAA how tough Oklahoma is on cheating.  That's essentially what was going on.

Court of law:  We have DNA evidence and a confession.  Do you have anything in your defense?

Dennis Radar:  Nobody's perfect.  Why should I be.

Court of law:  Good enough for me.

MobbDeep:  I say guilty.  What say you?

WabashRoll:  I too say guilty.

MobbDeep:  We are in agreement, then.  So let it be written.

ku does have the most NET profitable athletic departments in the Big 12, and guess what, KSU has the 2nd or 3rd most NET profitable athletic department in the Big 12, and that will likely grow even more this FY.   With KSU selling twice as many season tickets, the new Nike deal, and with Radio/TV revenue increasing every year.

I don't know what that has to do with the fact that KthUg basketball cheats and KthUg tried to dump all over the womens basketball program to try and make themselves look better . . .  but whatever BMW needs to make  himself feel better.

Sad . . . .

Get your facts straight before you start talking about something which you seem to know very little about.

Evrard said Marian Washington’s coaching staff — perhaps on advice from their lawyers — did not willingly submit to follow-up interviews during the school’s own investigation.

“They did not cooperate with our initial requests,” Evrard said. “We finished the investigation with that type of information. We didn’t have the full picture.”

Without a full picture, athletic director Lew Perkins took the high road and made a determination that several violations must have occurred, according to Evrard. When the enforcement staff stepped in, individuals from the previous women’s basketball staff agreed to be interviewed.

“At end of the road, when we finally got the cooperation of everyone, we learned there wasn’t enough evidence to support violations,” Evrard said.

As a result, ku submitted seven violations from Washington’s tenure, but the infractions committee only found one illegality. A potential recruit received a car ride from Naismith Hall to a testing facility in Lawrence from an assistant coach.

As for ku's athletic department....

Kansas ranked third in the Big 12 last year in total revenues, generating nearly $70 million. Kansas now has the most profitable athletics department in the conference. Kansas athletics generated $22.5 million more revenue than its expenses last year. And it’s because of Perkins.

Point taken. I suck at the sanctions smack game.

Strange BMW.

Because ku only reported $62.9 million in total revenue to the Department of Education for FY 2006 (Equity in Athletics Report FY 2006 Dept. of Education Office of Postsecondary Education) with net operating revenues of of just over $15 million.  This isn't more KthUg fun with numbers is it . . . you can never seem to get the story straight when dealing with KthUg.

Now, if KSU wasn't making any money and operated in the red, then that smack might actually hurt me, but KSU athletics operates well into the black, and is one of the most net profitable athletic departments in the Big 12, posting $9 million in net revenues for FY 2006 (Equity in  Athletics Report FY 2006 Dept. of Education Office of Postsecondary Education).

FYI . . . schools receiving any federal funding must provide the DOE with a comprehensive athletic fiscal report by Oct. 15th every year.

KthUg . . . we were so concerend about wrong doing in our men's basketball and football program, we took two scholarships away from womens basketball.

I don't blame Marion Washington for being uncooperative, she was clearly getting tossed under the bus.

So, you take the word some UDK hack, I take the word of the Department of Education.

You roll out some BS about how "uncooperative" Washington was . . . well who wouldn't be if you basically didn't do much of anything and yet your old employer is coming after you like you handed out wads of cash and cars.  All KthUg had to do was tell the NCAA that the previous ku women's coaching staff was being uncooperative, therefore the picture of what may or may not have happened was unclear.   ku could easily have appealed the NCAA decisions on anything found with Women's basketball.  But instead, Perkins opted to throw them under the bus in order to make it APPEAR that ku was getting tough on cheating.

Excuses and tap out noted BMW.

$62.9 million would be "nearly $100 million" if Al Bohl were still around.

Fact:  I am going off of ku's fedearally mandated financial report to the Department of Education.

Fact:  BMW goes off some dumbass UDK reporter just winging it.

Fact:  ku could've easily appealed any decision made by the NCAA in regards to any possible violations by the womens basketball program, and in fact could've refuted any findings by the NCAA at the findings hearing.

Fact:  ku just opted to slam the womens basketball program, without even knowing the facts in order to save face in front of the NCAA.
