A few programs were even recruiting Evans for two sports—basketball and football (he runs a 4.4 in the 40-yard dash and, by his own count, scored 16 touchdowns last season as a wide receiver for the Bulldogs).

If anyone really wants to know what's up with Tyree you might think about checking with this Goodson fellow: (http://forums.thesmartmarks.com/index.php?showtopic=82891&pid=2350413&mode=threaded&show=&st=&)

My friend since childhood Tyree Evans will be making his Kansas St debut this year. He will be a freshman but is 22 years old. He is a great shooter and probably one the best defensive players in the country. He got an offer to try out with the Suns. He got in trouble a year ago which prevented him going to Cinci. --Oct 29 2006, 10:50 AM

Yep, he's a legend in his own mind.  Do we really need that kind of ego here?  There's nothing I hate more than a ball-hog prima donna.

Fixed it for you.

I dunno, a ball hog prima donna that shoots 50% from the floor and scored 30 PPG would be pretty sweet.

Huggins and Evans is a match made in heaven.

I can only dream about how sweet a team with Walker, Beasley, and Evans would be.

100 ppg.

Spoke with Tyree today. He was in Lawrence over the weekend. He is buddies with Brandon Rush. Want to know if Tyree is being recruited by ku? Well, it's news to Tyree. He said  Rush was the first to mention something to him about it this weekend, which means, yes, Brandon Rush visits message boards. As for K-State, the assistants are still contact, but so is Maryland. He's worried about Smithson telling too many schools (and athletic directors - and you know who I'm talking about) he's not coachable. Anyway, plenty of schools are still interested. Plenty.

Hope this helps. Story coming next week...

Do you think that if KSU's coaches felt he was uncoachable they would still be in contact?  Also, the "coachable" part was never any worry of the AD's...it was his off the court issues.   With Huggins, coachability is my last concern.

An uncoachable player on a Huggins team would be a bit like the proverbial immovable object meeting the proverbial irresistible force.

I think the problem is that he's been linked to things that he says he hasn't done. It's not off-the-court issues at Butler - again, according to Tyree. He doesn't get along with the coaches.

The problem with KSU/ADTW?

Weren't there some quotes from Smithson stating plainly that the issues at Butler weren't of the off-court variety?

In general. He believes there is a perception issue. I'll say this - his high school and prep school coach rave about him. He grew up in a rough area, and he's probably not an angel, but they had nothing but positive things to say.

Jeff - Any idea how Hugs & Co. feel about Weiser telling them who they can and can't recruit?  I can't see that sitting well with them.

Someone should probably remind Weiser that it's only a coup to get Huggins to KSU if we can keep him here.

I think you pick your spots. I don't think they've been all hot and bothered over Tyree, but I think they wouldn't mind having him if he wasn't going to be a headache. Right now, who knows what he is?

I don't think Huggins and his staff would fight this one because they understand what the hold-up is.

Jeffry, If you are doing a story for next week you should go back and look at WSU when Smithson was the coach and Maurice Evans was on the team. Maurice was a top 100 recruit and Smithson attempted to make him carry an other wise fairly untalented team. Im my opinion Smithson ran him off by blaming Evans for losses. It's hard to score when the opponent only has to guard  one player. Needless to say Maurice transfered to another school with a little more talent. When Smithson played he wasn't a natural talent. I think he has a problem with those that are.  Anyway Tyree may have not been the problem. If I heard right didn't Smithson take a leave of absense this year and then deceide to quit coaching after this year? Looks to my like history may have repeated it'self in Tryee case.

J-Mart shoots down the shockernet dude rumor.

Quote
Which way, Tyree? -- He doesn't think he'll be reinstated to the Butler basketball team, and that's fine by Tyree Evans.

The future is more important than the present.

Evans remains a Division I prospect, and judging from the schools in contact with him, a coveted prospect. He remains interested in K-State, and Evans said he still communicates with members of the coaching staff.

But other schools have entered the conversation, notably Maryland.

"They're on me hard," Evans said.

Oklahoma coach Jeff Capel coached at VCU, which is located in Evans' hometown of Richmond, Va. The Sooners are now in pursuit of the 6-foot-3 shooting guard, as are Tennessee, Florida State and Georgetown.

Seeing Tyree at OU would hurt.

It could be that beating out OU for Gilson, Marques and Fred is coming back to bite us.  The kurse of Kelvin if you will.  :(
