Is not that we lost. Kansas needed the win more than K-State did. They were at home, and they had lost their last game, also at home, to the league leader. And besides, with a 7 game win steak going, K-State was pretty much due for a loss.
What surprises me is how little effort or intensity K-State gave. They did not mentally show up for that game. The defensive tenacity and the physical play, especially in the paint on rebounds, just weren’t there. The way the refs called, or make that ‘miscalled’, the game had a bit to do with that, but even with the one sided refereeing K-State was just not playing the type of ball that the were in the previous games.
Mark my words that this is going to be a tough and nasty couple days of practice for the team. The only way, at this point, this team can get out of Huggs’ dog house is with intense effort, and that means ‘effort’ in practice, not during the next game. But I think we will bounce back fine. And I would wager a bet that the next match-up with Kansas will not look anything like this one did! Remember the games against New Mexico and the way we came to play the second time around...

That is by far the biggest disappointment in the game. I hated seeing ku beat us to loose balls and destroy us on the offensive boards. We didn't control the things that we have the ability to control and that has been the identity of this team during our win streak. I suppose its possible that ku is so good that they can impose their will on pretty decent teams (I still think we're pretty decent) and we were their latest victim of that. However, a nearly 30 point loss was humbling and unexpected.
I agree that I wouldn't want to be those guys in practice the next couple of days, especially Akeem and Lance. I think we'll see a team ready to impose their will on the Buffalos saturday afternoon.
