sheesh
He suggests the gap between ku and K-State is growing. Check back on Feb. 19 and see what he has to say then.
What rivalry? Jayhawks humiliate K-State
By JASON KING
The Kansas City Star
LAWRENCE | So much for all the talk about how the gap between Kansas and Kansas State is closing.
Heck, if anything, it’s getting bigger.
That was certainly the feeling Wednesday, when the Jayhawks humiliated their Sunflower State “rival” with a 97-70 pounding at Allen Fieldhouse. Brandon Rush scored 18 points for ninth-ranked Kansas while Darnell Jackson had 13 points and 10 boards.
At 20-3 overall and 7-2 in conference play, ku now has sole possession of second place in the Big 12 standings behind Texas A&M, 8-1. Kansas State is now 17-7 and 6-3 after suffering its 33rd loss in its last 34 tries against the Jayhawks.
Wednesday, though, was supposed to be different. Or at least that’s what the Wildcats thought.
Kansas State entered the contest full of momentum thanks to a seven-game winning streak that included an impressive win against Texas on Saturday in Austin. Not only that, but this same group of Wildcats upset ku last season in Lawrence under former coach Jim Wooldridge.
None of that mattered Wednesday, when the Jayhawks force-fed Bob Huggins’ squad a hearty spoonful of reality from the opening tip to the final horn.
Kansas jumped out to a 15-2 lead and pestered K-State into missing six of its first seven shots. The Wildcats — thanks to some gutsy play from reserve guard Jermaine Maybank — fought back and pulled within five, 33-28.
But Kansas closed the half on a 14-5 scoring run that was highlighted by eight points from Rush, including six on a pair of three-pointers and two more on a couple of foul shots.
The Jayhawks committed two turnovers in the decisive first half and shot 51.5 percent from the field.
As for the second half … it never was even close, as ku opened with a 10-0 run and didn’t look back. The Wildcats didn’t make their first field goal until the 14:05 mark. Part of their problem was a lack of production from leading scorer Cartier Martin, who was pestered all evening by Rush.
Martin went scoreless in the opening half and had little effect, if any, on the game. Instead it was Maybank who made the most noise for the Wildcats. He entered the game averaging 2.6 points and finished with a career-high 26.
Five players scored in double figures for the Jayhawks, who began emptying their bench with 3:28 remaining. Darrell Arthur had 14 points and Darnell Jackson tallied 13. Mario Chalmers and Sherron Collins each scored 11.
ku outrebounded the Wildcats 46-24. Julian Wright had a team-high 11 boards. Kansas State shot 39.1 percent from the field while the Jayhawks shot 55.9 percent.
As much as ku wanted to continue its dominance in the Sunflower State Showdown, getting a victory Wednesday was also huge for a ku team that was smarting after Saturday’s home loss against Texas A&M.
The setback could have a huge effect on ku’s chances at a third straight Big 12 title. At this point Kansas needs to win out and hope Texas A&M loses again to force a tie for first.
ku returns to the court Saturday for a game against an even bigger rival: Missouri. The Jayhawks and Tigers tip off at 2:30 p.m. in Columbia. Kansas State, meanwhile, should be favored in its next three games against Colorado, Nebraska and Iowa State. After that it’s a Feb. 19 rematch with Kansas in Manhattan.

someone get me bennett's BLOCKS..thats all i have to help me sleep tonight....they must be animated.
-
While you're at it Nibre, can we get the Maybank faceplant animated too?
-
LOL @ "rival."
He's still so bitter at being called out for sucking at the ku teat instead of getting the scoop on their rule violations.
-

all i need are MPGS
-
and that fat bastard to get off his ass.
-
Get the whole thing of Bennett fouling out.
-
That looks like an objective piece of journalism.
Did BMW write it?
-
Wow, just Wow. That's a "we" from being an article in the Daily Kansan.
-
Seriously, King is still smarting from getting called out in KC for being a lapdog for ku instead of getting any information on their NCAA violations at all. This is his way of "getting back."
-
"ku returns to the court Saturday for a game against an even bigger rival: Missouri."

Frankly, they deserve to be smug. We stunk up the joint tonight when the stage was set. We'll just have to let them enjoy this and move one. We can't let this loss turn into another couple vs CU and NU. We are still a better team than those two and should win, even in Lincoln. If we get our identity back we will.

Oh, screw them. The important thing here, as you noted, is that we not let this carry over.
As for ku, they're gonna flame out early in the tourney, as usual. They require an incredible amount of motivation to show up. If they could just play the national championship game, then I'd pick them. Since they have to win 5 other games first, they're not even going to make the Elite Eight.
-
Are ku fans seriously upset about the officiating?

i´m pretty sure they are serious. very funny.

I don't think a KC Star reporter deserves to be smug.

The idea of the gap widening is preposterous. By that logic KSU had passed ku last year. The only way to judge is to look at the records come march. I love reading King articles, every other journalist has to think he is hilarious.
Tonight was embarassing though. A few points for me to bitterly make.
-ku fans boo obvious fouls when they are up by 20 points. Wow.
-That "lame cartoon bird"* is way too big. The fruit loop toucan beak nearly touches the 3 point line.
-ku hates KSU, moreso than MU. Its obvious. Sit down Norm has turn into sit down Huggins.
-Their crowd can get loud. Who would of thought.
-Julian Wright: One ugly son of a bitch.
-Collins is going to be a huge pain in the ass.
-Even when Bennett is a @#%$ty player, he still swats against ku. JB>Sasha.
-Fred Phelps is a ku fan, in the end KSU wins.
Lets take it to the Buffs. :ksu:

"Fred Phelps is a ku fan"
is he really?

Does King have a video blog?
'Cause the last KC Star beat reporter's video blog I saw linked on here was hilarious.

yes. Nice Jacket Freddy.

*****"Fred Phelps is a ku fan"*******
This is actually true. I used to work on copiers and fax machines, and Phelps, and his family, and cult church, were very big customers of mine. I would have to go into the church to work on machines, and they have/had autographed ku posters for the past 10 or so years on the walls in their media room. And Phelps and his wife were always wearing ku sweatshirts.

The best part of
Fescoe's Jason King's article to me:

LOL

Look.
When the Flock starts crying and wailing when King writes anything negative about ku . . . which is about maybe once a year, then Jason King and the star realize that with over 100,000 ku alumni in the KC metroplex (why do some ku people try and tell us how ku people are so worldly . . . but I digress) they've got to glory hole ku 99% of the time or listen to a lot of wailing from the alums and the thousands of ku bandwagoners in the KC metroplex.
-
when you guys shoot 17 more free throws than us on our court, then yes we complain about the refs. they controllled the tempo, not letting us push the lead to 35 or 40.
-
17 more free throws than us on our court...wow, kind of says it all. Are we a little upset because we didn't feel like we got homer-ed enough. Look, the officiating was pathetic, but not because ku got jobbed. It was just bad.

The BTK killer is a K-State fan, so you lose on that one. Besides, K-State fans are the ones who always try to insult ku by using gay jokes.
Let's look at Kaun and Bennett's stats from last night, shall we?
Kaun: 13 min, 9 pts, 3 rebs
Bennett: 11 min, 0 pts, 0 rebs, 3 blocks
Anything else?
-
Show me a picture of the BTK Killer in anything with K-State on it. We have a picture of Fred Phelps in a ku jacket.

ku is gay

There's a fine line.
I like King. He's a Baylor alum --not ku. In my opinion, he does a good job and is a good guy.
I think the storyline is fine. Yes, there was talk of the gap closing before last night. And no, the play on the court didn't indicate that. Therein lies his story. He just pounded it home a little more than most writers did with today's story. And, as J-Mart mentioned in another thread, if his editors let it slide, then it's probably fine.
-
The funnier thing is that in the articles leading up to the game he was saying how the gap was closing and how much better we were than last year so we stand a really good chance. Maybe he was just bitter that his prediction was completely wrong.

Shouldn't you be writing another thriller about Shanei lelling?

Levi said

It all makes sense now, like Tom Light, King is not a ku alum again proving my theory that the worst ku fans did not attend the university and have nothing to live for except to root for ku basketball. And when ku loses It makes them feel like their penisis were cut off bobbit style. That's why they are such douchebags.

Who cares? They cleaned KSU's clock. It's over and anything written about it that is taken personally, is a waste of time.

You're pretty retarded. My point was that he isn't such a huge homer because earlier in the week he was predicting a very close game. Is reading comprehension a problem for you??

I heard Doug Gottlieb comment on women's basketball tonight on his show. He said "I like my ice cream and I like my spaghetti, but I don't like my ice cream in my spaghetti."
