Ahearn is a nice rectangle (the field house part anyway), but it is no Octogon.

With the peaked roof you could sort of call it the irregular Pentogon of Pain.

At it's peak the crowd could produce a noise level that exceeded a jet engine from 50 feet away or a NY Subway train going through a tunnel.

The thing is, it's been done before in Bramlage, it's just that nobody remembers it.

You know how in wrestling they call the ring the squared circle?  We should call bramlage the "Octagonned, Rectangle".

Its interesting how our society has progressed in a way that what was once considered basketball attire has become what most would consider underwear now known as "boxer briefs".

I remember in the early/mid 80s when Willie was on the court with a HUGE dip net and the Chickens (at least 10) and several of them were painted blue and red....... Willie scooped them up........  I also remember when Steve Stipanovich came out on the court and several students pulled out cap guns and started shooting............  and bananas thrown at Johnny Crawford................  oh and Donnie Von Moore

K-State hasn't averaged over 11,000 per game since 1970.

Actually Chum, isn't that Carl Gerlach laying one in, with Dan Droege in the background?  Yeah, the bananas were thrown at Donnie Von Moore...it really wasn't too cool as it held up the broadcast for awhile so they could clean up the mess.  The squawks were all high and mighty...but threw hot dogs at Curtis Redding.  As for Stipo, I remember the Stipo Shot J.R. sign as one of the best.  Norm Stewart stepped forward after the banana throwing incident and came into Ahearn wearing a pith helmet...Norm did have some style.  Loudest I ever heard the old barn was when we played the Soviet National Team (before Reagan disbanded it) and they toured the U.S.  They beat every team before they came into Ahearn.  Redding stole the ball and went in for a slam to seal the deal at the end and it was so loud you couldn't hear the person next to you at all.

Koenings, yes.

But that's Carl Gerlach for KSU and the other Chicken is Paul Mowkeski.

From a poster on the Slant:

The BEST KSU average attendance between 1970-1988 (NCAA only kept records since 1970) was 11,700 in 1970. Averaged less than 11,000 every year since 1970.

You're so freakin clueless.   Once fire codes kicked in they were only suppossed to put 11,220 in there and that was pushing it.

You never went to a game there, you don't have the first clue.

Sweet Jesus, what a bunch of freaking morons.

From the KSU media guide:

http://admin.xosn.com//pdf2/51015.pdf?DB_OEM_ID=400

11,000 in attendance in 70, 72, 73, 77, and 78.

You and your slant retards probably used this as a source:

My God, what a collossal group of dumbasses jayhawk slant must be.

And 89, 90, and 91, according to that sheet.

ku fans are still accustomed to the "Al Bohl attendance measuring system."  To them, "12,000" is really more like 1400.  They aren't used to schools only counting the fans once apiece as they go through the turnstiles.

Actually, attendance smack from this guy:

Apparently you've never been to Lawrence.

I go to ku.

Ben Michael, shouldn't you be at the big game?

Yes, but I chose to stay home and watch it* on ESPN2 while drinking mass quantities of alcohol.

*OSU/ku** game

**Two Top 10 Teams

Is impressive.

I wonder what our average attendance will end up being this year.  Will they use actual or paid?
Title: Re: Remember the glory days of Ahearn?
Post by: michigancat on February 02, 2007, 09:01:22 AM
I think paid, Saul.

That's what everyone else does.

Most schools don't even report "actual attendance".

Yeah, paid is what the NCAA uses and I'm surprised that we even post the actual attendance like we do.

For the year, we are at 12160 on average for paid and 9149 for actual.  For the year it looks like we will finish at about 12500 and 10000.  That paid attendance would be the 2nd best in the history of the Octogon and place us between #20-25 nationally.
