Title: Which point guard would you rather have?
Post by: Kat Kid on January 31, 2007, 11:07:07 PM
FG       3pt      Points                     Rebounds             Assists       Turnovers
Option 1       2-5      1-2         5 (all first half)             2                       3                5  (including 2 on 3-1 fast breaks)
Option 2       1-2      1-1         3 (clutch in second half) 2                     2                0
Option 3       3-4      0-1         6 (including steal for layup)3                      0                0

I'd take options 2 or 3.  Anyone want to argue?

I still love Blake Young.

Maybank and Young?  Think both Maybank and Bennett are not getting enough cred for the W tonight.

Me too.

Also, I find it interesting that Louis Colon continues to start and we bring Martin off the bench.  I wonder if that has anything to do with Martin's senior leadership and Colon's fragile ego.  Is that using kid gloves?  Some might say so...

Sarcasm?

Agreed Young hit a HUGE three and Maybank single handedly got the crowd the loudest it was the whole night.

Others blew TWO three on one's.

I do like how Option #1 runs the offense though!  His intangibles just don't show up in the box score!

Martin doesn't start because Huggs feels that refs set the tone of a game early on by calling out a lot of fouls so that the game stays clean. Huggins keeps Martin on the bench so he doesn't get into foul trouble just in case Hoskins does. He got this from Red Auerbach when Red coached at the Celtics.

Also, apparently Colon has been playing lights out at practice and has been an absolute force to be reckon with. Hopefully it will eventually transfer into his in game playing..

Edit: and if that was sarcasm, I completely missed it.

Great posts from KK as usual.

Kid, your sarcasm is noted.

I'll say what I've said all year, we need all 3 of our PGs.  Imagine this team with just 2 of them, any 2.  We aren't the team we are with all 3.  They are going to continue to shuffle on and off nights and as long as we have at least 2 on their games to an extent, we'll be fine.

For handling MU's pressure and getting us into offense, Stew did the majority of the work and was fine.  There is a reason he played 30 minutes and the other two combined for 25.  However, both Maybank and Young made the most of their minutes tonight.  The 3 headed PG monster is what we need, but there is a reason that Stew continues to get more minutes than both of those guys and will continue to do so.

Is there an Option 4: Stephon Hannah?

If so, I'll take that.  :(

Agreed freak.  Agreed.

fan-  two three on one's.  He had a 66% chance of hitting a player with a similar jersey.  BOTH TIMES he hit the Mizzou player.  He didn't even throw it out of bounds or something, just right to the Mizzou player.  TWICE!  If you can't make the play on a 3 on 1 (and if you can't you shouldn't be a D-1 pg), back it out at least and retain possesion.  He makes MORE many ill-advised horrible decisions with the ball as he did the day he came here.

Right now in conference Clent has a 13/14 A-TO ratio.  Including the non-con is fools gold, but he is still only 53-42.  In 05-06 he finished the year with 85-57.  As a freshman he went 116-70.

WTF??!!

Jermaine has flashes where he can make you awe.  His stats won't make him the MVP, but at times when he is on the floor it seems like he is.  It's really too bad we are only going to be able to watch him in purple this year.

Don't worry, he'll still be here another two or three years depending on how long it takes him to defend his dissertation.

I know.  I've really enjoyed him - he makes nice plays, doesn't make any mistakes, and seems to have a good attitude.

I understand bitching about not having a good PG.  I don't understand bitching about playing any one of our current PGs more than any other.

You are absolutely correct and his TOs tonight were inexcusable and I'm glad Huggins sat him after the 2nd one.  However, we're still a much better team with him getting the majority of the minutes at the point.  There is a reason why Stewart averages 30 minutes, Young 15, and Maybank 10 in Big 12 play.  If Young or Maybank got the majority of the minutes at PG they wouldn't be nearly as effective.  What Stewart needs to do is play within himself and not try to do more than he is capable of like he did tonight.  Those numbers will continue to stay the same and I think these 3 are shaking out into the roles they'll have from here on out.  Again, this isn't an either/or deal to me, we must have all 3 to be effective to be an NCAA team and none of the 3 is going to shake out to be "the guy" b/c none have the ability to do that.
