Title: Attendance article in collegian
Post by: fatty fat fat on January 31, 2007, 10:27:11 AM

That has Garth Gardiner, a 1989 K-State graduate and season-ticket holder, disappointed in his fellow fans.

"I understand conflicts and not being able to come to the games, but there's no reason if you have a ticket to the game and you can't come, that you can't find somebody who can use it," Gardiner said. "It's so important to the future of this program to have it full every night. I don't think our fan base

"If we don't fill this place up every time they come out, then somebody else will come in and hire (Huggins) from us. That's just the honest truth," said Gardiner, who has developed a relationship with Huggins and his coaching staff since they arrived last March. "If we fill it up and we create an intimidating homecourt advantage, I think he'll retire here.

"Hugs doesn't want to do things half-assed. If you can't fill a 13,500 seat facility, he'll go somewhere where they will."

"I've been in glasses since the second grade. When my eye doctor recommended Dr. Wellemeyer, it was a no-brainer to explore corrective surgery. Before surgery, I would have to get two inches from the alarm clock to see it. Now I can see it from across the room! LASIK is a life-changing procedure that will take away the 'shackles' of glasses or contacts and make you feel like a new person. Dr. Wellemeyer is a very talented surgeon and his assistant is one of the most helpful people in the office. Thanks Dr. Wellemeyer!"

Typical KANSAS family!  He must be part of that evil Big Cattle Cabal I keep hearing about.

"Hugs doesn't want to do things half-assed. If you can't fill a 13,500 seat facility, he'll go somewhere where they will."

Won't support it....fine.  You won't have it then.  Support mediocrity in basketball...stay home.

Thanks to Google Maps:

Ashland, KS to Bramlage  -- 273 miles, with a pack of kids in tow, in the snow, for nearly every home game.
Marlatt Hall to Bramlage -- 2.2 miles

We could use 13,000 more like him.

I was just trying to figure out who that was on Saturday, and even commented on it to my wife...

Coach Prince walked up and tapped him on the shoulder and said hi, etc...

Dude looks to have shelled out 16K for those four seats, and two of them are for little tikes...

If Mr. Gardiner is the big time rancher and KSU booster it appears he is, this is the closest thing we have to T Boone Pickens.  We need more of him.

If he's developed a relationship with Huggins, he's probably also making nice contributions.

People will show for what they perceive to be a winner.  If the place isn't consistently packed in a few years, it's only because we aren't making the tournament.  And if that's the case, it's probably time for Huggins and KSU to part ways, anyway.

Side note:

My grandpa owns land that used to be owned by "Dan and Beth Bird - Great Wildcat Fans from Anthony, Kansas".

Their cattle brand is on the leather cattle brand thingy:

Anyway, I think all big donors get to go to luncheons and stuff with the coaches and have "relationships" with them.  I'm sure their all really good at making the donors feel like they care about them personally.  That's how they got where they are today.

I'm led to wonder how many games Garth had seen in Bramlage between 1989 and October 2006.

If it's the same dude that sits at the north end of the courtside seats, he's really into the games...and I'd love to sit with him at a game...rather than with the folks with their asses planted to their chairs..

After the announcement that veteran coach Bob Huggins would succeed Jim Wooldridge as men’s basketball coach, a rancher from Ashland, Kan., decided it was time for fans to thank Weiser for his work.  The rancher, Garth Gardiner, decided to get a group of fans together to donate money to a fund to buy something to reward Weiser. He posted his idea on the GoPowercat.com Web site, and eventually created a PayPal account to raise the money. Gardiner said about 31 people raised a little more than $2,500, which was put toward a Cabela’s gift certificate for Weiser, who is an avid outdoorsman.

Tim Weiser's total compensation package EASILY makes him the highest paid administrator on the KSU campus.

The Mercury has taken down the copy of his contract, but I believe on top of his $250K or so base compensation, he gets a $90-$100K a year bonus, which as I recall was never clarified as to what Timmy has to do to get that bonus.

Plus, figure that it was Timmy's idea (he being the big outdoors man who misses meetings because he's "away" aka hunting) to have the annual fishing tournament sponsored by . . . Cabela's I don't think Timmy really needed that gift certificate.
