When I came into the game at 3:30, a fellow student handed out sheets will different chants and tactics for the students to use. About 50% of the student body got them and it sure did a good job at making the student body look like it should.
My favorite...when Bennet blocks a shot, everyone just shakes their finger in the air.
kudos to this anonymous student! :dancin:

What were some of the others?

I KNEW IT. Chant sheets. :yuck:

"Just....like....football....when.....we....used...to...be...really....good"
-
Can someone scan the chant sheet?
-
cheat sheet included NU player's family names
the bring on the cats
bennet's wag
sit down coach chant
holding up fringers for the number of fouls
big 12 refs suck
three blind mice lyrics
clapping at the beginning of the game till we score.

With this team, we could be clapping for damn near 10 minutes straight.
Luckily our lack of offensive ability is completely overshadowed by our lynch mob defense.
-
We did that back in the Ahearn days, that is where it comes from "youngprince."
-
A bunch of students went to a focus meeting with the marketing dept. and put the sheet together.

Singing 3 blind mice is possibly dumber.

Agreed. Why can't we shout out profanities like all the elite schools?

First time I have witnessed the "Bring on the Cats" cheer. I thought it was awesome.

By far the best and most organized the student section has been in years. Great job by the students. I especially liked the "who's he" etc. signs while NU's starters were announced. Overall the pregame was very well done in the 10 minutes leading up to tip off. I wasn't sold how much organizing things would work, but after this game and the job the students did I was impressed. Hopefully it keeps going the rest of the season.

I don't like this cheer, but the better option is to do this till the other team scores. It puts the pressure on their team with the type of tough defense that we play.

I watched the Missouri game prior to KSU coming on TV. Anything is better than their:
"Hey-hey. Ho-ho. Get that ball and go"
or
"M-I-Z-Z-O-U"
My thinking is that's about as sophistacated as their student body can get.

We used to just do "You Fuqed Up" instead....not sure why that was dropped.

i wasnt there real early but i didnt know this went on. good idea though

The students were good.
They should do the K-S-U-clap, K-S-U-clap at the end of the game, last minute or so of a win. A few years ago when we play the chickens close, we did it to drown out the Rock-Chalk...worked pretty well, thought we should do it at the end of every game.

OK I know I am a stupid ku fan and you all probably hate me already, but I do enjoy reading things on this board usually. However, this thread just makes me laugh, I mean you actually need chant sheets at a game? Your football stadium is awesome during games and I don't see anyone holding sheets! I guess it is a proactive way of getting the students involved in the game, but I still find it quite sad. Am I wrong?

I agree, the whole idea is lame.

One thing that drives me nuts is the stupid t-shirts being thrown out during the game. There is a game going on and an entire section is more concerned with a t-shirt. I really wish they would stop and wait until a time out.
-
Yeah, I'm not that crazy about the sheets. Kind of just gives our &@#%tarded students more ways to screw things up. Such as starting to chant a Nebraska players moms name right once we're about to shoot a free throw. But I don't think the idea of a sheet is that sad overall though. When done properly it puts the entire student section on the same page, such as at Duke.

I agree. And Rusty, pretty much everything about being a "fan" is lame when you look at it from an outsiders perspective.

Well, cheer sheets w/ "3 blind mice" lyrics and "na na na na hey hey hey goodbye" songs are lamer.

I'm good with whatever it takes to get more people involved.
Saturday was fun. Whatever it takes to maintain that spirit, I'm all for it.

the "goodbye song" was impromptu, it wasn't on the sheet. However, the fact that any college student thought chanting the song 3 blind mice would be clever and cool is beyond belief. Give me good old fashion bull crap chants anyday.

I'll admit I wasn't big on having to organize this stuff going in, but its hard to argue with when the student section was the best I've seen in years. It does look kind of lame that it takes a chant sheet, but I can't complain about the results it was a fun game to be at with how involved the students were during the game.

I don't see why it's lame. It's not like we have 20 straight years of great basketball and a packed house every night to carry on the traditions like ku has. The success of the chant sheets tell me that a) some students out there care enough about this stuff to come up with ideas and make the effort to print and distribute the chant sheets and b) the rest of the students section wants to show support for the team and is willing to get into the games, they just need a little guidance because the last time we made a run for the NCAA tournament, a lot of them were in 2nd or 3rd grade.
Some of the stuff may have been kinda rudimentary the first time around, but my guess is that they'll get better stuff going as time goes on and more people get into the act of suggesting things. They'll figure out the stuff they like and they'll do it a lot and those will become traditions. Perhaps the chant sheet itself will become a tradition, only it will contain mostly opponent-specific information rather than the chants that become traditions. Trust me, if they start doing chant sheets for every game, it's going to get play on Big Mondays here in a few years, with Erin Andrews in the student section talking about how much the students are into games that they do all this research before the games to come up with chants specific to the opponent, etc.
-
Yeah, I guess if there was good content they wouldn't annoy me that much.

Most of the things on the "chant sheets" are things I remember the student section doing in the dark days of Asbury. I honestly don't know why they need it now, but then again I'm getting old.

Well apparently Huggs wants it now. Gotta do what he says.
-
Duke uses chant sheets and they have one of the best atmospheres in the nation. K-state hasn't had tradition for years. So while it may be lame, it is needed.
-
The fact that Duke uses chant sheets is the best reason not to use chant sheets. Are you this self-destructive in other areas of your life too?
-
Also the fact that a bunch of sober pre med students spend their entire lives working on good cheers to do and then practicing, doesn't mean that our students could do anything near that. I also don't think that is what makes a student section a great section, just be loud and I think we'll be fine
-
If FAN and slimz think that the student section was the best they've seen in years, then I'm inclined to agree. Give the sheets a chance. If it keeps Huggs happy, its worth it.
