Title: Attention Macintosh people
Post by: CatsNShocks on January 23, 2007, 08:33:12 PM
We need a Widget that somehow relates to KSU Basketball or Huggins.
I don't know how to do this. Is any one up to the task? Any ideas?
Maybe their schedule, or count the days from Huggs first game till his first Technical,
what other ideas do people have?
Somebody with some Mac knowledge needs to do this. Seriously.

How about a widget that automatically views any of fatty's YouTubes posts.

I'll see what I can do.  :)

What the heck is a wiget?

Isn't it that deal in Guinness bottles and cans that's supposed to make it taste better? :)

not in the bottles, just the cans I believe.

here are a few examples of widgets

with the click of a button, one can customize their dashboards to show them anything they want. there are thousands of them.

I definately wouldn't do it at work.

So that's why people buy Mac's.  that's a pretty cool useless tool.*

*didn't rhyme that on purpose.

macs are made for doing a million things at once without crashing or slowing down.

desgin, crap like that.

widgets arent useless. im sure windows has an equivalent.

macs are the crap.
Title: Re: Attention Macintosh people

I know next to nothing about software (that is software?) or computers in general.  I grew up with windows and every time I use a mac I want to kill myself.
Title: Re: Attention Macintosh people
Post by: michigancat on January 24, 2007, 09:28:33 AM
Macs won't run the 3D CAD programs that I need to use.
Title: Re: Attention Macintosh people
Post by: ECN on January 24, 2007, 09:32:36 AM
i grew up on PC's too. and instead of killing myself on macs...i have embraced them. i even went as far as adopted one...

 named him Captain Leo Davidson.

i know the mac commercials may be lame, but they are just trying to prove how easy and simple they are.....plug in and go. no adding this...they dont get viruses, and they are just briliant machines.

they should be able to run CAD with the intel chips

How do they not get viruses?  If they are so simple maybe that is what I have needed all my life.

They don't get viruses because people don't bother to write viruses for macs because noone really uses them.  It's all about market share.

there was an article somewhere about how the change from PC to mac was growing and that they will have to write software to protect. and no, it wasnt in ranger rick.

mac and mac users have learned to adapt to a PC world. our software goes both ways (like Shocker) and im too lazy to type more.

macs-

More stability...

Less computer crashes...

Less scripting bugs...

Better graphics...

Faster processing speed...

(The speed is comparable, but the stability, scripting, and crashes are a result of WinXP being inferior to OS X and not an actual Mac advantage. Linux PCs are comparably stable etcetera. Maybe it's because both are derived from UNIX...)

okay...here is my rundown of what i see as Mac advantages:

The Macintosh computer’s true “Plug-and-Play” capabilities
make adding hardware cards easy.

The Macintosh computer’s built-in SCSI port makes it easy
to add peripherals.

Windows is loaded with “mystery” files such as DLLs,
INFs, and SYSs.

Macintosh computers offer easier, more versatile
networking

The Mac OS is easier to install than Windows.

Macintosh computers offer more flexible monitor support.

Macintosh files stay linked to the applications that created
them; with Windows, this isn’t always the case.

The Macintosh makes it easy to add input devices.

The Macintosh has superior folder management
compared with Windows

Macintosh computers provide sophisticated
color-matching capability.

Installing and using CD-ROM titles is easier with
Macintosh computers

The Macintosh makes running an Internet server
easier and more secure.

The Macintosh gives you 100 percent pure Java.

The Macintosh has Cyberdog. (PC's have pissclams cat)

The Mac OS has AppleScript automation.

PCs can lose valuable information if their batteries fail.

Macintosh computers let you run more applications.

You can easily work with PC files on your Macintosh.

A Macintosh running Windows can share data
between OS environments.

Macintosh has better backward compatibility.

Macintosh computers require less hardware than PCs
running Windows to run similar applications.

The Macintosh is rated more reliable—for the third
year in a row

enough said.

better graphics = roffles
Title: Re: Attention Macintosh people
Post by: ECN on January 24, 2007, 10:22:31 AM
Macintosh graphics and multimedia formats are more standard-
ized, and therefore more flexible. On a Macintosh computer,
the PICT file format is supported by most applications that can
deal with graphics, which allows for easy cut and paste between
applications. In fact, the OS-level integration between three-
dimensional and video data formats provided by Apple’s
QuickTime Media Layer even allows you to cut and paste
three-dimensional data and motion video.
Windows users are often subjected to dozens of different
formats for graphics and multimedia. Windows users have no
assurance that what they create in one graphics application can
be cut and then pasted into a different graphics application for
further processing or modification

THATS what i mean by better graphics

So back to the original question:
Who can make a Widget for the KSU mens bball team?
Why are PeeCee users even reading this thread? I believe the title is "Attention Macintosh people"
It wasn't suppose to be a pissing contest.

It was suppose to be basketball related. If you check out the Widgets at the apple.com web site, there are many, many schools with schedule widgets, etc. I just thought it might be cool to have a KSU widget.

Congratulations to Vista. Why are you trying to flame?
Feel free to create a "Go-Go Gadget" then.
In the mean time, I hope someone more tech-savy than me can create a widget for the Superior Mac crowd.

Agreed 100%, we need a K-State Gadget, several of them.  *(I'll build the KATPAKGET)*

The first computers I worked with in middle school were Apple II e's.  They sucked ASS.  Apple II e's were the only available computer when I was in high school...hated them then too.  I got my first computer when I was in college in 1990--an IBM with a whopping 60 MB hard drive.  Since then I've had 2 HPs and my current Dell--along with my HP laptop at work.  I don't know, maybe its just that I'm so used to PCs.

When I first started teaching, the only computers at school were Macs--because Macs were cheaper for schools to buy.  THEN they figured out that once you get out of high school, outside of graphic design businesses, you're not going to use a Mac because businesses are dominated by PCs.  Since then, my school has gone exclusively with PCs, except in the computer graphics class.

I'm just used to PCs.  I understand them.  Every time I have to work with a Mac I want to scream.  However, I'll say this:  PCs are better for some applications while Macs are far superior in other applications.  It all just depends on what you're going to use them for.

I got in trouble in computer lab for setting the logo turtle to repeat the pattern 99999999 times or whatever.  They didn't know what to do, they (teachers) were afraid to turn it off so they let it run for a couple days.

   1. Quit out of the browser.
   2. Go to your Applications folder and control-click on the browser application bundle.
   3. In the context menu that appears select Get Info.
   4. Under the General heading of the Info dialog select "Open using Rosetta".
   5. Close the Info dialog box.

I'll try and reinstall it...

Does wmv run in your browser?

Enterprise has no place for Macs.

That's because the enterprise is brain dead.  Yes sir, we can only have Windows and Outlook in our office so Betty Dumbcrap can forward her joke chainmails to the whole department using those pink kitty-kat stationary on the email.  Because otherwise we'd be OH SO SCREWED paying all that money retraining her and her friends on how to send that crap without asking her boss 10 times if we put her in front of something different and told her sternly "no more pink kitty-kat formatted emails, ok?"

A Dual G4 800?  Why don't you tell us how well a Pentium III is going to run Halo 3, faggypants?   :P

The "open using rosetta" is basically just telling you it's not a universal app.  Just act like Rosetta doesn't exist and you'll be less confused.
