Too bad we don't have a point guard to get either of them the ball.
:frown:

We'll be okay at PG next year. Stewart and Young with another year (though hopefully he can play more SG) and Pullen and Brown in learning. Someone with a good rep said Brown can play PG on GP.

Google "point guard jacob pullen" and you'll get a bunch of hits. He's considered by everyone that knows anything to be a point guard.
-
there's no such thing as a point guard in today's game
*don't google it (waste of bandwidth).
-
I was making the point that Pullen AND Brown are considered PGs. They are probably more combo guards, but what's the difference. Point is, we'll have 4 options at PG next year and several guys that can play PG and SG, plus hopefully a scorer/shooter in Thornton. (sorry, I've given up and Evans0
-
You're just saying that because you've only watched stewart and young play for us. Other teams actually do have pointguards.

I now better understand people's definition of a "point guard", I just don't think an average one would make our current team any better at all. [/hijack]

Yes, he's part of why I pay for Wabash. Knows his stuff, he gets paid to eval kids.
I'll acknowledge we're not all-league at PG, but its not why we lost the game monday. We'll be okay at PG, and having great players (like Walker and Beasley) will make a PG look much better. With Stewart, Young, Pullen, and Brown we'll be fine at PG at next year. its obvious to me the way we are recruiting that Pullen/Brown are the PGs of the future, at least in Huggs' eyes.

It's pretty obvious that they consider themselves solid at PG in the near future when you look at the 2008 recruiting list.

When you have a guy named Cashmere on your list, is there really any need for others?

All you have to do is a little research of Huggs' Cinci teams to see what he likes in a PG. Only 3 times in his tenure did his leading assist man have more than 5 per game. Huggins asks his PGs to be more than just a distributor, and more often than not they are double digit scores. Plus, his system usually sets up multiple guys to be 2 or 3 APG games and one guy around 4 or 5. Just look at his teams, he never had one guy with 6 or 7 assists per game and that seems to be what people are expecting.
Idealy he'd probably like the guy we missed out on, Hannah, b/c he has the ability to do both very well, but those guys are hard to fine. I believe our staff believes Pullen or Brown (or both) are exactly that type of player, athletic guys with basketball IQ who also show the ability to score.

If only he would post more often and less cryptic.

Stewart and Young aren't Huggins style point guards. And Pullen and Brown will have lots of growing pains next year. So, we're still going to be deficient at that position next year. You'd think that these guys can hold it together well enough not to hurt us too badly, but we'll certainly have plenty of room for improvement at point guard as well.
-
Hoskins didn't do too shabby at the point vs Tech. :D
And Pullen and Brown will have lots of growing pains next year.
If they have growing pains similiar to Walker's I'll be happy.

Dwyer 90, South Fork 74: Fred Brown scored 35 points, including four three-pointers, and Jermol Paul added 31 points to help the Panthers (10-4, No. 2 Post Top 10) top the Bulldogs (7-8) in Stuart.

It's always "next year" with our fanbase. Don't you think we should worry about fixing our (many) issues this year? There's still a lot of games to be played. Face it guys/gals, we suck!

I've said all year that while we aren't all-league at PG, we have enough there to win this year. We need out scorers (Cartier and Lance) to score and our biggest weakness is we have no post player who is a legit threat to score consistently from the low block. Even a Tony Kitt/Kelvin Howell-type player would help this team a bunch.
Plus, its hard not to get excited about next year when we'll have two Top 10 HS players on the floor together. In "wait 'til next year" posts from the past that hasn't been the case.

It's not been until recently that "Stew" has been playing to a level that Huggs is happy with, he isn't hurting us right now. He handled himself well vs. Tech.
We need to push this offense through Martin & Hoskins and we can go .500 in league.

Agree 100%. Stewart is a smart kid and he wants to win and his figured out "Huggins' way". Maybank or Young give us a guy to spell him so he doesn't have to play too many minutes.
Its clear this team will go as far as Hoskins and Martin take it. If they can be consistent scorers that play off one another, that can certainly be .500 in league play.

Man, what I'd give to have Jeremiah Massey back right now.

and larry reid

Toss in Dave to that equation........ Beasley + Walker + Hoskins =
Hoskins is going to really benefit from having 2 studs to play beside and having better point guard play.
I really think Bennett is going to continue to improve, so our front line is going to be very good next season
