Long-time Kansas State strength and conditioning coach Rod Cole has resigned his position with the Wildcats to become the head strength and condition coach at Texas A&M, athletics director Tim Weiser announced Monday.

Weiser said he received the news over the weekend from Cole, who recently completed his 14th football season as K-State’s strength coach.

Texas A&M associate athletics director for media relations Alan Cannon confirmed the hiring and said that the Aggie Athletics Department would be making a formal announcement regarding Cole’s addition later today.

Weiser said that Kansas State would immediately begin a nationwide search to fill the position.

Cole, who came to K-State in 1993, was a part of 12 bowl teams during his tenure with the Wildcats and in 1998 was named the National Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year by the Pro Football Strength and Conditioning Coaches Society.

A native of Kensington, Kan., Cole served stints at Dodge City Community College, Mulvane (Kan.) High School and Bethany College prior to arriving at Kansas State.

As a player, Cole was a football team captain, leading tackler and all-conference selection at Bethany College, where he helped Bethany to two conference titles and was a member of three nationally-ranked teams. He was also an all-state selection on the Kensington High School state championship football team.

Cole earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education and health from Bethany in 1984 and his master’s of education in sports administration from Wichita State in 1988.

That's a step up for Rod, good for him.  Dax has no idea what he's talking about.

I am not impressed with the physical conditioning of our football team anymore.  Guys sucking air, guts overhanging belts etc. etc.

And yes, I do know what I am talking about.

I agree with Dax.  I think some fresh blood would be great for the football program.

Hmm...I was always under the impression that Cole was considered to be one of the best in his profession.

Put Huggy in charge of their conditioning.  That'll fix it.
