Title: the fat ugly guy for gopowercat
Post by: Poopley on December 04, 2006, 06:29:04 PM
the fat dude from gopowercat was on the radio this afternoon. he said the insight.com officials lied to kansas state peeps and to the other bowl officials. he said they said definitively that they were taking kansas state if they were available, and that the texas and indy bowl never really talked with ksu peeps cuz they didn't think ksu would be available. fat dude said the texas bowl was caught off guard as much as all the ksu officials.

weird if true. but you can never tell if that fat guy is telling the truth.

Peeps in the library:

Group Work: As has been observed in college students, the Peeps also appear to favor working on collaborative, or group, projects. We observed them meeting as a group in an area of the library designated for such purposes.

Food: The photograph above illustrates that Peeps are just as likely to eat snacks in the library as are college students. It should also be noted that the Peeps attempted to finish their candy as quickly as possible when they became aware of the presence of library staff in the area.

The photographs below illustrates the lack of understanding Peeps have for the purpose of a photocopy machine. In the photo on the left the peeps appear to be enjoying the warmth of the photo element on their bottom sides. This experience led to an unfortunate incident in which the top of the photocopier fell on the Peeps resulting in some injury, as can be noted in the photograph on the right.

It just goes on and on . . . http://www.millikin.edu/staley/peeps/

Assume for a moment that this is true and ask yourself how it might have happened:

1) With the Gator Bowl out of play, the Insight determines that it's likely the lower tier Big XII bowls are going to have to choose from among a group consisting of KSU, Mizzou, TTech, Okie Lite, and the Squawks.

2) The Insight assumes that it's a slam dunk that the Sun Bowl will grab TTech, the regional team, to ensure a full stadium.

3) The Insight believes they're looking at a choice of KSU, Mizzou, Okie Lite, or the Squawks.

4) The Sun Bowl does the unthinkable and selects Mizzou and their non-travelling fan base on the assumption that spending the holidays in Ciudad Juárez del norte is preferable to spending them in Missouri.  (They're right but that won't help their ticket sales like they believe it will).

5) Suddenly the Insight finds itself with the ability to select a team from about half as far from the Phoenix area as KSU and one whose fans tend to travel well (if you lived in Lubbock you'd jump at any chance to get out too).

6) The Independence Bowl is broadsided because they've already sent their invitation to Okie Lite.

7) KSU lands in the Texas Bowl.

Everyone send a thank you note to Kevin Weiberg, Big XII Commissioner and KSU alum for, once again, allowing KSU to be screwed in the bowl selection process.  Seems like an annual tradition.

His degree should be revoked.  Seriously.

I could see us actually turning down an Insight bid to land us in the Texas bowl... Better opponent, near recruits and more KSU fans... But IDK if that happened. I just could see it happening..

I also hate Weiberg, for being a KSU grad he sure like to shaft us.  On the road for the opening Big 12 game for the last what 10 years.  We get the shaft when it comes to officials every damn week.  I do believe that he hates us and I also think that his degree should revoked.

Can someone explain to me why the insight Bowl is so much more attractive than the Texas Bowl?

1)  Better opponent
2)  Better for recruiting
3)  Better stadium
4)  Closer to KSU fans
5)  Both are on NFL network
6)  2 of our last 3 bowls were in Phoenix
7)  Both payout the minimum

Am I missing something?  Why does everyone feel screwed?  Just your typical KSU inferiority complex?

Oh, my bad.  We got screwed out of that financial windfall.

the players get more perks from the insight. the insight bowl gifts include a nanopod and an xbox. the texas bowl provides only a solar calculator and a free fannypak (available in a variety of colors).

Actually:

Insight pays: $750,000
Texas pays: $750,000
Indy pays: $1,250,000

Who the F cares what the payout is?

Who the F cares what the payout is?

Nobody should.  The team only gets to keep a set amount of the bowl money (I can't remember how much) which barely covers expenses, so I'm told.  The conference gets the rest and is split evenly.

The only team that really cares about payout is Notre Dame.

The thing our players will care about is the gift package.  Whether or not they get an mp3 player or video game system or something like that.  That's what will matter to them (besides the game of course) in the long run.

Where does the ku/Fat Man bowl conspiracy fit into this whole story?

Yeah, the Texas Bowl is probably better in all aspects for us than the Insight, but I think that the "slight" is that the Insight is supposed to select "Big XII #6" while the Texas is supposed to select "Big XII #8."

I say, pound the Red team that we're matched up with and set the stage for a bigger run next year so we're talking about being slighted to the Big XII #3 bowl when we deserved #2.

I'm pretty sure that Big 12 teams keep nothing from the payout except that which is necessary to pay for trip expenses and the balance, if any, goes into the pool that is then divided equally among Big 12 teams.  If the expenses are not covered by the payout the Big 12 bowl revenue is used to offset the loss.

Personally, I'd much rather be playing RU than a 6-6 Big 10 team, whether Iowa or Minnesota.

As for Weiberg, withdraw his degree if for no other reason than he appears completely incapable of negotiating a TV contract that pays out equitably and insures the type of coverage the Big 10 gets from its TV partners.

I'm with Rusty. I don't understand the disappointment over this bowl. I was happy as heck when we got that over the Insight. Got to be the inferiority complex.

I don't understand being upset over the insight.com bowl either, the Texas is a much better situation for us, besides we should just be happy to be bowling again
