Title: How good of a coach is Callahan?
Post by: Bookie Pimp on December 01, 2006, 03:39:17 PM
I've not yet heard his name come up in ANY of the "rumors" regarding open positions at far better programs like Alabama or "Da U".

If he was all that and a bag of chips, wouldn't another school be after his services?  Or, do they all see what we see...  a mirage?

Discuss.

he's a good enough coach to win the north when he has the most talented roster.

i would love to see husker nation break down if they lose the next two and finish 9-5, and quite likely unranked.

Didn't he take a Super Bowl team to something like a 2-14 record the next year?  He's clearly neither bold and daring nor scary smart.

I wouldnt really expect any school to come after Callahan anytime soon, if anything just because he hasn't proven that he can win big year-in and year-out at NU.  If he can manage 9,10, or 11 win seasons over the next 2 or 3 years then maybe...but that's not certain by any means, especially after his tenure with the Raidas.  Having Keller at QB next year is kind of a freebie for Cally...it's when he leaves that the true test begins IMO.

Wasn't he Nebraska's 4th or 5th choice?

That is correct.  However, he did manage to only reduce a 10-3 team to 5-6 in his first year in Lincoln.

Wasn't he Nebraska's 4th or 5th choice?

I believe 5th would be correct.  But, at least he didn't clown NU like Houston Nutt did...

He did orchestrate a player mutiny against him in Oakland.

that was pretty bold and daring.

Good enough to slap you guys down and win the Big 12 North. So you guys go ahead and debate how good he is while hoping against hope that some third tier bowl is desperate enough to want you.

That's just funny....you get hammered by Baylor, Kansas, Nebraska, etc. and you're questioning how good the coach that won the division is.

You lost to five teams, and an argument can be made that Kansas and Baylor were sucky.

You played Nebraska...in Manhattan...and got punked....

Nebraska is ranked.....you are not....

Nebraska is the Big 12 North Champion....you're an also-ran.....

Nebraska is the playing in the Big 12 Championship Game.....you are not.

Nebraska is going to play in a New Years Day Bowl....you are not...

But keep on talking about Callahan being overrated....maybe it will distract you from K-Lite scratching and clawing for an invite to the Motor City Bowl, Insight Bowl, or some other lower bowl that no one will watch.

Hey I personally like Callahan.  He absolutely demolished what was a great Raiders team that still hasn't recovered from the damage he did.  With a team that was in the super bowl the year prior, he managed a whopping 2 wins(on the entire year) and he forced a team-wide mutiny against the Raiders administration.  And being a huge Chiefs fan, you have to love and respect anyone that can put the Raiders in that deep of a hole.

I also love that he completely destroyed a 10 win Nebraska team and turned it into a 5 win team and kept Nebraska out of a bowl for the first time in like 50 years, also losing to a four win K-state team in the same year.

I'll love him even more when he does to Nebraska what he did to Oakland.   :beerchug:

Uh...yeah...that's called rebuilding. That ten win team was clearly on the decline. When K-Lite and other pretenders were able to even keep games close, we knew it was time for a change. If K-Lite can come within a couple of TDs of you, there are some major problems. It was time to get back to dominating the also-rans in the Big 12 North. That's proved to be a winning strategy, as we won the division championship, and will play tomorrow for the league championship and a BCS bid.

In the meantime, sit nice and close to your phone and wait for some guy from Detroit to decide he can't get a better team to come to his bowl, and break down and invite the seventh or eighth best team in a twelve team conference to a pointless game that no one will watch.

I've never even heard of the Insight Bowl or Texas Bowl or Motor City Bowl.....are they even televised? Or just webcasts? I suppose they might be 2 A.M. games on SpikeTV or Lifetime. I guess if I lived in Manhattan, any excuse to leave town and go somewhere with running water, electricity, and paved roads would be a nice change of pace.

But you keep wondering if Callahan is overrated....we'll just keep owning you.

Here's the Bowl Selection Order from the Big 12 Website:

BCS (Nebraska or Oklahoma)
Cotton (Oklahoma or Nebraska)
Holiday
Gator (when it selects a Big 12 team)
Alamo
Sun (when the Gator does not take a Big 12 team)
Insight
Independence
Texas

Now after Nebraska and Oklahoma play their game tomorrow and their destinations are determined, Texas, Texas A&M, and Missouri have better records than you do, and you're tied with Texas Tech. Now Tech is probably a more interesting matchup that draws more fans than K-Lite. So how is it that you think you'll be invited to the Alamo Bowl?

I suppose it's possible, but even if the Gator Bowl opts for a Big 12 team, it's not very likely. Far more likely are one of the bottom three.

How about losing to Baylor 17-3? They ended up with four wins, and are the embarrassment of the conference....but then you claimed that honor after getting punked by them.

How about losing to Missouri by 20? Forget being competitive with Nebraska. You guys aren't even competitive in the race for second palce in the Big 12 North.

How about barely beating Illinois State...at home no less....beating them by one has to be embarrassing. What are they, Division I-AA or something? Why not just schedule a high school team?

How about losing to Kansas 39-20 this year? How did their year end up? For how much you idiots make fun of Mangino, he sure owns you....that's why you're K-Lite after all. That was hilarious, especially after you all puffed your chests about how you had arrived after sneaking out a win against Texas.....we'll call that your "back to reality" game.

So tune in tomorrow night, and once again you can gnash your teeth and eat your hearts out and wish you were fans of a competitive football team.

The word "punked" existed long before Ashton kutcher and will exist for long after.

The fact that you think kutcher invented it indicates you're about 12 years old. The fact that you have homoerotic pictures of him is also funny, but disturbing.

Callahan did what he does best.  Kept it close.

And Grixby didn't kill you, although you'd like to blame him. Your QB was awful.  Having the ball in the 3rd with 3 drives starting in OU territory and getting 0 killed you.
