Title: ku running game next year
Post by: The Manhatter on November 19, 2006, 07:52:12 PM
will be nothing.

Senior starters yesterday and # of career starts..

LG Whitaker - 45
C Ochoa - 32
RG Dambach - 21
RB - Cornish - 21

bye bye seniors.  Folks, you don't lose 98 career starts on the interior OL plus your meal ticket running back and produce anything the following season in a power running attack. Not at ku you don't.  Maybe a Michigan or USC can reload but even those programs have more struggles.

KSU to live in ku backfield in Manhattan next year.  I can't wait!!

They should start Reesing. Now. Meier isn't that great.

it won't matter because both Reesing and Meier will be running for their lives.  And neither is Freeman.  You won't see Reesing or Meier winning games single handedly the way Freeman is capable.

It will be interesting to watch ku fans restless about their offense because it will be suckage...bad suckage.

Their LB's and secondary should be stong on defense but nothing about their DL concerns me after losing Wilder.
We will have the more veteran, experienced team on both sides of the LOS and football.  A bloodbath in Manhattan.

I'd almost be willing to bet money that Reesing starts next year.

Meier was very unimpressive.  He looked just like Dylan in 04 but not as good of a passer.

Unless mango can put together a complete recruiting class he'll keep having either a good defense or  a good offense.  Our O and D should both be better next year.

How many career starts do Wafford and Frieson have?

ku's defense will be good again.  Better than this year but  not as good as last year.  I think Fatman will use his JUCO scholarships on DT's and plug them in.  Their offense will look like it did last year.  We get them early  next year, coincidentally after the UT game.  I can't believe were at the point where we have to concern ourselves with ku's returning squad, but I guess that's where we're at.

I think this is frieson's first year with much playing time.

Wafford probably has at least 20

Wafford - 22
Frieson - 7

But the amount of returning players w/ starting experience is exceptional.  I'm not saying all of them are good players but never hurts to have the starting experience for depth.

Bedore - 14
Handy - 14
Hafferty - 14
Stringer - 9
Unruh - 4
Spexarth - 3
Robinson - 3
Rooker - 3

I can't think of anybody else.  The key is getting some experience and then doing a lot in the off-season as far as film study, etc.

Plus, add a very good JC OT...Meyer should help next year probably at guard...Turner, if he makes it in December, Krehbiel had moved up to #2 on the depth chart during pre-season camp until he twitched his knee.  Mayfield redshirted and should help somewhere.

The OL showed a lot of progress and should be better next year.  We gave up far less TFL to opposing defenses this year and our RB's ypc was good...it gets better next year and that means soul glo gets some of these defenders off his nut sac when he throws.

zacker, there are things about ku's defense that don't impress me at all. McClinton and Talib are very nice players. Stuckey could be a good one..he certainly has the physical tools.  Not sold on Anthony Webb, he looked slow.  The two int's were bogus.  Patton tipped the one int twice and he was just coming up to make a tackle...Jordy had him beat on an out route on the other and Freeman just badly threw the ball.  Webb doesn't look anything like Talib did last year.  Talib is a stud...Webb will get schooled a lot.

They do lose Kemp..he's like a coach on the field for them.

ku's defense has improved w/ Wilder coming on.  He's playing well but they lose him.

This batch of LB's is not as good as the last one.

I think their LB's will be as good by the time they are seniors.  They were just Soph's this year.  But it will depend on the play of their D-line.  Their D-line has, for 3 straight years now, bitch slapped our o-line.

3rd year sophomores.  Reid and the middle backer didn't redshirt.

I saw some weak play by Rivera yesterday. It's easy when the opposing team can't beat you deep due to personnel issues...just fly around the LOS and be reckless.  We played into their hands.  He missed badly on a number of tackles I never saw Reid or their middle backer miss.  And he's their best 'backer.  Not impressed w/ Mortensen at all.  ku had a better LB foursome in '04 w/ Reid, Toomey, the kid from Wichita, and kid from Rockhurst.  In '05 the trio was better than this one will be.

hatter...are you predicting another win (like you did last year)?

P.S. Where's the beef?

okay, good.  Congrats on your win.  Hard to predict last December an 18 year old kid guiding the offense and all of the injuries.

Congrats on your win and soon to be 3-5 season.  As long as you have a Wooly head coach on the football field you guys are in good shape.

year one Prince: 4-4 (beter finish than Mangino in 5 years)
year 5 Mangino: 3-5

Who will be their RB? Jake Sharp? LOL@Sharp being rated higher than Patton.

Angus Quigley had a torn thigh muscle that put him out for this season, otherwise he would have spelled Cornish instead of Sharp.  Quigley has nice size and quicks, and he can catch the ball really well....he just needs to stay healthy for a change.

Tough to replace Cornish, that's for sure.  I told you guys he was good.

Bob Whitaker's knees are worn down, and he is in near-constant pain on the field, so I don't know how you'd call him a big loss.

We'll have a lot of new starters on the OL next year.  Meier and Reesing will both be running a lot until the line gels.

We have Ian Wolfe, a really good prospect, tearing it up in practice....he should come in next year and start at either LT or LG.  Ryan Cantrell will likely take over at Center, he has played a number of downs there.  Next year's OL should look like:

LT Rodriguez - RS SR
LG Wolfe - RS FR
C Cantrell - RS JR
RG Arceo - SR
RT Collins - RS J
