Title: My problem with Majerus
Post by: Dan Rydell on March 06, 2006, 10:02:01 AM
I like listening to the guy as an analyst, but I'm really starting to wonder whether he would have the passion to really throw himself back into coaching.  After the USC thing and hearing him discuss repeatedly what he thinks about getting back into coaching, there just doesn't seem to be much fire there.  I would hate to take a guy who comes back for a couple of years, decides he doesn't really care to coach any more, and then leaves the program without recruits.

I could be wrong, but I'm thinking that he would be a much riskier hire than a Huggins or a Richardson, in terms of getting results.  Now, off-the-court issues is a different story...

I don't want a coach who's coming straight from the booth.

You might be right on Majerus, that's a very legit concern.  I'm having little faith that the Top Tier of "big names" out there will end up at K-State anyway.  We'd have a better shot at the next tier of guys; Gillen, O'Brien, etc.

I've heard Majerus left USC because they wouldn't let him hire an assistant(s) to recruit full-time...he wanted to go all-out since the season was basically wasted (Majerus accepted the job in December).  It sounds like there was some serious miscommunication between USC and Majerus.

I'd be thrilled with Majerus.

i'd be thrilled too, although i think i would prefer either huggins or kruger.  i doubt if a guy like majerus would return to coaching to get his ass kicked.  if he came back, i would assume it would be knowing the commitment that he was making.

I wouldn't question Majerus' commitment, especially if he started dictating to Weiser what he would need as far as staff, facilities, etc.

I feel Huggins has more to prove now.  I'd like for the new coach to come in with a chip on his shoulder.

I'm pissed off that we've sucked at basketball for the last decade +.  Huggins is pissed about how he got ran out of Cinc.  Him making KSU kick ass at basketball will solve both problems.

I saw on one of the previous threads that somebody mentioned Richardson as a potential choice.  You mean Nolan Richardson?  No freakin' way!
That dude is a whiner, complains about anything that does not go his way.  And he called out his own administration at Arkansas, calling them racist.  Don't know what he was refering to, but he did.  Don't want a guy like that representing us.
