Oh yes. The most wonderful time of the year is upon us. This thread will be used to discuss the current state of the Field of 64(5) as we begin to construct it.
The #1 seeds as of now:
Midwest - Kansas
South - Syracuse
East - Kentucky
West - Duke
Currently there are 38 teams that are considered "locks":
Big XII (7) - uk, KSU, Texas A&M, Baylor, Texas, Missouri and Oklahoma State
Big East (8) - Syracuse, Villanova, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Louisville, Georgetown, Marquette and Notre Dame
Big Ten (4) - Purdue, Ohio State, Wisconsin and Michigan State
ACC (6) - Duke, Maryland, Clemson, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech and Florida State
A-10 (3) - Temple, Xavier and Richmond
SEC (3) - Kentucky, Vanderbilt and Tennessee
Mountain West (4) - New Mexico, BYU, San Diego State and UNLV
West Coast (1) - Gonzaga
Pac 10 (1) - California
C-USA (1) - UTEP
That brings the grand total of spots that are claimed to 62.
It looks like the remaining 3 spots will go to 3 of these 6 teams: Utah State, Virginia Tech, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Illinois and Florida
Clinched Bids -
Cornell - Ivy League
Winthrop - Big South
East Tennessee State University - Atlantic Sun
Murray State - Ohio Valley Conference
Northern Iowa - Missouri Valley Conference
Old Dominion - Colonial Athletic Association
Siena - Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference
St. Mary's - West Coast Conference
Wofford - Southern Conference
North Texas - Sun Belt Conference
Butler - Horizon League
Oakland - Summit League
Robert Morris - Northeast Conference
Montana - Big Sky Conference
Lehigh - Patriot League
Houston - Conference USA
Vermont - America East
Morgan State - MEAC
Sam Houston State - Southland
Kansas - Big XII
Washington - Pac 10
Ohio - MAC
San Diego State - MWC
UC Santa Barbara - Big West
Arkansas-Pine Bluff - SWAC
West Virginia - Big East
New Mexico State - WAC
Kentucky - SEC
Duke - ACC
Temple - A-10
Ohio State - Big 10
-
Northern Iowa and UTEP will get in whether they win their conference tournaments or not. UNI is currently rated as a nine seed and UTEP as a ten seed. Old Dominion is also a ten seed and is also probably safe. There are seven at large teams with 11 seeds or worse and nine at large seeds with a ten seed or worse. These teams will all have to get bumped out or jump over UNI and UTEP before they fall out.
-
It looks like Cornell is about to be the first team to clinch a bid. I believe there are 3 bids up for grabs on Saturday.
-
Honestly I think I would be totally content with a two seed but a 1 seed would be sick

...and a one seed where lunardi has us right now would be amazing :hope:

This would be our easiest path to the final four no doubt.

Let's not overlook OSU in the second round of the conf tourney. That could be a #1 buster. :nono:

Butler is having all kinds of trouble with Wisconsin-Milwaukee right now. This could cause the first headache of Championship Week.

You took it wrong. Hater.

Hey TBL I wasn't the one that took it wrong, I don't really wanna see KSU out of the top ten but it was an ugly loss and this team has a lot to learn my friend
-
Just a little heads up.....Joey Brackets still has us as a #1 seed and I've added a few more "locks" to the field.
-
Pac 10
-
Wichita State leads Northern Iowa at the half
-
Northern Iowa hangs on which is a relief to Bubble teams everywhere. I believe that we're done with automatic bids for the day?
-

what does espn say?
-
I respect your writting around here Olde Fella, can I get your prediction for our Cats for the rest of this season?

Just saw him on ESPNews and apparently no he doesn't. He does have us in the list of teams that could steal Duke's #1 along with Ohio State and Purdue. Best case is that we win the Big XII or maybe even someone other than Ohio State or Purdue wins the Big 10 tournament.
-
I'm really concerned that we could fall to a #3 if Ohio State doesn't win the Big 10 Tournament. Thoughts?
Also, there are 4 more tickets to be punched tonight:
Old Dominion vs. William and Mary in the Colonial (ODU might get in even if they lose)
Fairfield vs. Siena in the MAAC (Siena might get in even if they lose)
Appalachian State vs. Wofford in the Southern Conference
Gonzaga vs. St. Mary's in the West Coast Conference (Gonzaga WILL get in even if they lose)
-
Any idea what in the world is up with Fairfield's coach's hair?

In following the flow of the thread, I wasn't talking about you, Dob's. The hater comment was intended for the old fella. Come on. :frown:

Its a BBS man I am not worried about it lol, olde fella is a sock of some sort I am sure. Not really to worried bout him. Just keep posting TBL
-
St. Mary's throws the first real curveball into the Selection process by knocking off Gonzaga in the West Coast Conference Championship game.

Don't worry. I wouldn't have over 4,000 if I took everything personally.
-

Should be. :pirate:

We need to be thinking about getting back on topic here or finding another message board and/or thread. FYI the Bracket Math has changed so therefore my information is now updated. I needed to do a better job of keeping up on this.
-
I forgot to mention that we have Championship games in the Sun Belt, Horizon League and Summit League tonight. The one to watch is the Horizon League game. If Butler doesn't win, like Gonzaga didn't win last night, they're going to The Dance so another bid will disappear for a Bubble team.
-
South Florida wins in the Big East Tournament keeping their hopes alive. UConn looks bad so far vs. St. John's which is NOT good for them.
-
Seton Hall 109
Providence 106
The Hall tried as hard as they could to blow a 29 point lead but they couldn't finish it off.

Andy Katz's Big XII Tournament preview:
Most intriguing team: Kansas State
How will K-State handle the expectation of being a favorite in the bottom half of the bracket? The Wildcats have actually played better away from Manhattan than at home. They exhibit the toughness of coach Frank Martin. But this will be an interesting test for the Wildcats. As the No. 2 seed, Kansas State is now expected to reach the championship game and possibly meet Kansas for a third time. An all-Kansas final in Kansas City would make the Sprint Center the place to be for any ku-KSU alumnus in the surrounding area. It would probably be a Big 12 dream for this venue this season.
Also, tonight we've got the Northeast Conference Tournament Final between Robert Morris and Quinnipiac and the Big Sky Tournament Final between Montana and Weber State.
-
Nebraska up BIG on Mizzou right now. Maybe these major conference tournaments will have some surprises after all.
-
Oklahoma is trying to pull a Providence. Who would you rather play if you're the Cats? Oklahoma would probably be a better chance at a win, personally I think we can beat either, but Oklahoma State would be a revenge game.
It looks like Notre Dame is about to finish off Seton Hall in a virtual "stay alive" game.
-
Oklahoma State predictions? Can we at least act like we understand what March Madness is? Geez! If I wasn't running this thread you people would be clueless.
-
We're done for the night. Tomorrow the real fun begins as all of the major conferences will be under way. I don't believe we have any Championship Games tomorrow though. Can anyone confirm this?
Cincinnati just upset Louisville!
-
What to watch in the next couple of days:
ACC - Georgia Tech should beat North Carolina but will have a tough one with Maryland tomorrow
Big 10 - Minnesota needs to beat Penn State tonight and Illinois needs to beat Wisconsin tomorrow
SEC - Florida needs to beat Auburn today and that looks to set up an elimination game with Mississippi State tomorrow
Mountain West - UNLV is probably in but a 3rd loss to Utah wouldn't be good. SDSU probably needs two wins
A 10 - Rhode Island and Dayton probably needs to get to the Championship game and St. Louis could make a big statement by beating Rhode Island again
Other teams to watch are: Utah State probably needs a trip to the Finals of the WAC Tournament and UAB and Memphis have work to do in C-USA.
-
It probably doesn't matter in the big picture but Syracuse is out in the Big East
-
uk holds on to beat Tech 80-68. There goes our easy path to the Big XII Championship.

Memphis loses in C-USA for what feels like the first time in forever
-
What's the deal with Nebraska tearin' it up in the Big XII all of a sudden? They fall by 6 but if not for some mental errors, someone needs to teach them to foul fast at the end of games, it might have been a different story.
-
I heard some conversation on Around the Horn today that Syracuse's loss may cause them to have to go out West. Interesting that everyone seems to think that we're going out West and I've also heard people say that we'd beat them if we got to play them. Final Four here we come?
Also wondering how the Onuaku injury may effect their seeding or placement (ala K-Mart for Cincinnati years ago)
-
The field is updated. An already weak Bubble is shrinking FAST!
-
It looks like K-State locked up a 2-seed tonight. Congrats on the big win against Oklahoma State. That was your best game of the season, IMO.
-
A few games to keep an eye on today:
Illinois - Wisconsin
Tennessee - Ole Miss
San Diego State - New Mexico
-
Yet another update completed
-
Both Duke and Ohio State are about to tip off on the ESPN's
-
Looks like Michigan is going to upset Ohio State. How does that change things?
-
Evan Turner with the 3 at the buzzer. Nevermind!
:flush:

Duke's losing to Miami at halftime
:woohoo:
-
Ohio State down to Illinois, at half.
Sorry to but in. :dancin:

My back hurts from carrying you people. *whispering* Ohio State might be going down again! Ugh! Illinois misses a layup at the buzzer. Not sure it would have counted anyway. Overtime!
:hope:
-
Duke holds off Miami
-
Ohio State - Illinois headed to a 2nd OT
Ohio State holds on. This Championship Week has had its fair share of good games but everything seems to be holding steady.
-
Minnesota 37
Purdue 11
HALF
Purdue gets a bucket at the buzzer to get into double digits
WOW!

-
The field is pretty much set. Check it out!
-
Houston, Washington, and San Diego State took three bubble spots. Someone is gonna be pissed about getting left out.
-
So we got the squawks in the final four! Damn I was hoping we would face em in the national championship. Oh well 4th times a charm.
