Title: It has been 31(?) days.....

Blandest buildings

Bramlage Coliseum (34). Who plays there: Kansas State. Opened: 1988. Capacity: 13,344. Aside from the octagonal shape and (at least currently) loud student section, this is a clunky building bereft of charm. Especially when compared with a couple of nice arenas built around the same time (see: Cincinnati and Michigan State).

.....Since we invited ESPN to our house and they continue to ridicule us?

Sadly I agree.  I missed AFH by 1 year.  Missed the elite 8 by 1 year.  OOD is a functional building that is bland from the outside and has no real charm on the inside.  If they had slapped some limestone on it probably nobody would every say anything about it.  It is better after the renovations they did but still I prefer (snicker loudly now) the place in Wichita or Ahearn Field House East.  Perhaps that I watched Lon bolt on April Fools Day, was a student during the Altman years, lived in Manhattan during the Tan Tom and Woolly days has made me just a tad bit bitter about that building.

God I hope Frank sticks it to them and breaks it off tomorrow night.  I am now angry and I am going to go punch the first  :ku: fan I can find.

He said nothing about it being a good place to watch a game, but homer bias aside, its not some sort of palace.  Its a late-80s arena that had major cuts to stay under budget.  But years of winning basketball are what make arena's great.

Do you think it would've even been mentioned if they hadn't been here and we weren't a Top 10 team?

the key to the atmosphere at the OoD is that we sit the students on one full side... that administrative decision, to forgo any additional revenue (if there would even be any) and keep them all together, and not at the ends... has made all the difference in the volume and effect

our student section has kicked ass since Huggins got there. it's funny how the national media thinks this is the first year it's been "really loud."

Yes i agree, but the real reason is we sell a lot more tickets to students than many school.  such as uk, there whole stdium is mostly season ticket holders and Alumni

The student section was loud even when wooldridge was there.  Give alcohol to any student section and they won't disappoint.  It was the rest of the place that got loud when huggins came in.  Those damn old people are the ones who are wishy-washy.  But seeing video and pictures of ahearn makes me wish we had spent extra money and somehow expanded it instead of building bramlage.  I love the idea of packing a big ol barn when compared to a cookie cutter nba style arena.
