ku fans think Kaun is actually really good? I was just reading some info on the Phog (to increase my knowlege of the game of basketball) and whenever they say anything about K-State they always mention their superior athletes and always for some reason include Kaun in that list. Now, I'm just wanting to know if I am just out of the loop and am totally wrong here. What is everyone else's opinion of Sasha "I can't hit the rim from the charity line" Kaun??

he does what he is supposed to do. For a team stacked with guards, he does the things that are important to being a solid big man: very, very low turnover rate, rebounds pretty well, doesn't get into a lot of foul trouble, plays good defense. there is nothing more i'd want out of a big man when we have the guards we do.

The hawks love kaun so much because he had the body he has now as a freshman. He had only played organized bball for a couple of years and was a 4 or 5 star player so they thought he was just going to improve leaps and bounds. He's solid but he also disappears in big12 play.

That's actually a really good analysis of Kaun's game. His biggest strength is that he doesn't turn the ball over, and he does what's asked of him out of Self's guard heavy offense: rebounds, plays hard, runs the floor well, and plays a physical presence in the post.
I do like making fun of him though. :nahnah:

I just don't think deserves to be mentioned with Rush, Wright, Chalmers, etc. If Jason Bennett gave some decent effort, he would be just as effective as Kaun. I don't know, maybe you don't understnad what I am saying..

sys agrees 100%, and I'm kind of coming around on my opinion of Kaun for some of the reasons Booyah mentioned.
I'd love it if Bennett's first two years equal Sasha's.

Self feeds part of that. Just a couple of days ago in the LJW he called him a great athlete. Its all irrelevant though. You have to be an athlete to play at the Big 12 level. Kaun's just not a super freak like Arthur, Durant, Walker, etc.

that's why I don't think he should be mentioned with the likes of chalmers, wright, rush, because he isn't near as good. Kaun is an ok player, but nothing spectacular. I never said I wouldn't take him, he just isn't as good as they make him out to be.

Jury (mine) is out on Arthur, could care less that he went for 15 against Wburn.
Undersized 4 in the Big XII imo. :ku:

Are people thinking DA is a one and done?

Haven't been to Phog lately huh?
While you're there check out the Beasley vs. Arthur thread.

Arthur reminds me of Drew Gooden with a jump shot. He's skinny right now and needs to grow. Beasley is a man right now, but probably not as quick, but he can do everything. His highlights make him look like will smith from the fresh prince when they showed the bball games in that tiny gym.

i basically agree, except that i think you are underselling kaun a little. he is good at what he does, and self doesn't use him enough offensively.
also your guards aren't really that good. chalmers is v. good. no one knows yet about collins. the others aren't that special.

That's without a doubt the most objective analysis of Kaun's game by any fan. Spot on. And there is certainly nothing wrong with Kaun's game in this system.
When Self was Illinois he used his guys at the 5 spot in pretty much the same manner, no?
