Title: How To Beat Texas
Post by: catsfan20012002 on November 10, 2006, 12:02:18 PM
1. Go Deep

The Longhorns are ranked No. 105 (241.6 yards per game) against the pass. Use the pass to set up the run instead of using the run to set up the pass.

2. Survive the 2nd Quarter

The Longhorns have outscored their opponents 156-37 in that quarter in 2006. Stay with them early and make them sweat it out late.

3. Be Sound in the Kicking Game

Senior Michael Griffin has seven career blocked punts. He is tied for second in NCAA history with the 10 blocked punts that Central Michigan’s James King totaled during 2001-04.

SCORE MORE POINTS!!

Seriously, we have a small chance, but I'm not sure we can do this.

But it will be fun to watch.

I was wondering if we are wasting time running up the middle on any run plays.

Spread them out.

You have to control the ball, big plays are nice but Texas is better at making big plays than you are see texas tech game.  That doesn't mean that you have to run the ball all that well.  Short controlled passing game with a very high completion % will do, and a very high 3rd down conversion rate is also a must.  When they are on offense you have to have stud DT's.  THat is how you stop that shotgun counter play and option.  The DT's must get into the backfield and force the runner only 1 direction to run.  When they pass you must get tremendous pressure on the qb and not let them throw deep.  If they do you've got to have a safety to pick it off.

Ricky Williams didn't smoke pot in college, otherwise he would have failed one of his urine tests.

1. Go Deep

Freeman averaged 8.7 yards/completion. I'd say that's deep enough for me.

2. Survive the 2nd Quarter

I'd say we did that just fine as well. Really it was the bogus calls in the 1st Quarter that we had to survive.

3. Be Sound in the Kicking Game

This.....Not so much. We had two botched punts. Why in the world we faked that one so deep in our own territory.....I'll never know.

Either way it adds up to a guaranteed bowl game. Probably a pretty sweet bowl game actually. Gotta give this one a 7 based on our 7 wins.
