The project entailed dumping money into that sewer of a venue, Memorial Stadium. Why couldn't the ku faithful recognize the futility?
a) They're lemmings that believe whatever they are told
b) Lew Perkins spreadhseet slickery was to compelling to overcome
c) They honestly believed there were enough ku alum suckers to fall for it
d) All of the above

Ouch. Only raised 13%?
Ben...you didn't donate enough.
-
the comments are pure gold! how is ku considered a Tier 1 school? perhaps it is just an inept athletic dept., but it seems like almost every project they propose ends up being a disaster!

there should be a tapout emoticon

The only real discussion on a K-State football board are topics related to ku. Marinate on that for a minute.

Do you recall coming over and starting threads yourself? "Gill gets an A" and the such. Remember this is the offseason, and ku is bringing the entertainment this time.

That article was a complete hack job, by the way. No interviews with anyone from ku, or anything official about the Gridiron Club being "dead." It might not be ready by next August, but then again, how long has K-State been trying to scrounge up enough money to build a basketball practice facility?

dont try to spin this on us because your school failed- just face it, you knew the gridiron club would fail too

Regardless of the article's shortcomings, there are others to back it up:

Some dude named Jim Marchiony said some stuff:
The entire project is expected to cost $34 million, and athletics officials have said they would not start construction until they had secured enough money to build the place — a project still formally scheduled to open in 2010.
That window appears to be closing.
“It’s a 10-month construction project,” Marchiony said. “Even if we started February 1st, you can do the math.”
Like I want to do math for that guy. :hahano:

Best quote of the article:
In order to spark renewed interest in the Gridiron Club, Kansas Athletics needed to hit a home run with its new hire, but Turner Gill was at best a triple and probably more of a ground-rule double.

So how's the new basketball facility coming along, fellas?

A lot farther than the Gridiron Club. At least we haven't scrapped the project.

I'm glad you asked. The facility has been revived in discussions, won't cost $34 million, and won't come with phoney baloney promise (nice way of calling Lew Perkins a liar) of "money going back to the university".

Lew failed with this one Ben....failed.
Gridiron Club Level Seating..........................R.I.P. :'(
