You may have discussed this at some point. If so sorry. Why is their a need for a great big fancy practice facility for basketball? I can see an indoor facility for football but why a practice facility for basketball. If their is a good reason why, a new practice facility is more important than giving Frank the decent contract extension that he (in my opinion) deserves?
-
lol

I'm curious to hear the responses to this too. Obviously a state-of-the art weight and conditioning center is important, but how many baskets do you really need to execute an adequate practice? How does our weight and conditioning facility stack up? What would the proposed new facility include?

Of course not. The extension of Frank's contract should be top priority now... wasting a large sum of money on a seemingly unnecessary practice facility would be downright foolish.
As the old saying goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Referring to our basketball program and its recent success... It seems that they have been doing just fine by practicing the way they currently are.

Is it just a recruiting tool? That's fine if it is, but for us that don't coach Div. I basketball, I think this a fair question.
-
I've wondered this as well. I would think you would rather practice on the same floor that you play your games on. You get used to seeing the same rafters at certain spots on the court, during free throws, etc. Just think a separate facility for bball is a waste of money and space.
-
Because Frank fracking wants one.
-
Really, can't these guys just reserve some courts at the rec and practice there?
greedy

Yes. It's just an arms race. I was just wondering what our locker room is like, because places like OSU on a similar recruiting level to us are always improving anything they can to pull 'cruits: http://www.coachtravisford.com/facilities.php (check four renderings at bottom)
And I'm guessing the new practice facility would have dedicated, off-court exercise areas along with a better weight room, maybe some aquatic training areas, etc. But I'm just guessing, because I don't know either. But we need this thing, no questions asked.

So "Practice Facility" is really selling it short. It would include - Regulations Court(s?), Locker Room, Strength and Conditioning Facility, Film Rooms, Aquatic Training Center, Basketball Administration Offices, Bowling Alley,... Am I forgetting anything?
I propose we call the "Huggins Memorial International Basketball Training Facility".

When your in-state rival is spendng $55 million on new practice facilities and upgrades to AFH, and has one of the top three teams in the country, you've got to at least try to compete.
-
Just like ku was trying to catch up to us in football facilities in the past 10 years, we're now trying to catch up to ku in basketball. You're never at the top for long when it comes to facilities, and we haven't improved basketball facilities in as long as I can remember. Plus since Bramlage is more than a basketball court, there are many times that it's occupied and our team has been forced to practice in old ahearn, the rec and even one time in recent memory travel to Topeka to practice at Washburn. As it is now, if there's graduation, a womens basketball game, a concert or lecture, or even a home show we can't practice on our own court. Also I think we have an understanding with Frank that we will be getting these facility upgrades sooner than later, and that may be what Frank is really wanting, and not so much more money in his pocketbook.

In all seriousness when Huggs got here we didn't even have enough hoops to run a high caliber practice. We need to show that basketball can stand on its own and not be a little brother to football. Give them space to grow and become a big time program again.

Just spitballing here, but what if we did away with the football program and just converted the indoor football facility into a basketball facility? :dunno: It only makes sense that we pool our limited resources into the sport that we can actually have sustained success in.

This thread makes me worry for K-State basketball. :frown:

No, to run a true, high quality practice, you need 2 full courts w/ 4 auxillary baskets at minimum. Individual work is important.
Really, recruiting is probably reason #1, but our practice situation is sad.
-
i understand it but only from a "keeping up with the jones's" perspective. other than that I'm firmly opposed to the idea and think the money could be better spent elsewhere.

Spawn of WildcatEngineer.
The program needs a full time facility that they can have access to anytime they need it, and a place that the players can always have acesss to for pick up games. That is currently not the case with Bramlage alone.
I am hearing that the facility will also have a lot of new administrative offices.
What some tards can't seem to understand. Bramlage and its offices were built when K-State had a $3 million dollar athletic budget.
-
Maybe Martin & company have better uses of their time other than riding in a bus for an hour each way to Lee Arena just so they can get in some practice? They've been doing this for years, which has to be getting old. And sad.

Driving to the D2 arena in Topeka because they apparently have nowhere else closer to practice sounds efficient.

I can really tell that the renovations of that dump are paying big recruiting dividends as I watch Morningstar and Reed on the court for uk, together, right now. I just hope the renovations don't ruin what the uk fans call the "mystique" and others refer to as "overwhelming stench of urine."
