Title: Voice of the Longhorns Craig Way
Post by: Skycat on January 20, 2010, 10:34:39 AM
Listened to his afternoon radio show yesterday and the compliments he was throwing around to the crowd made me

Called it the best college atmosphere that he's seen since he started doing radio with the :hornsdown.

I don't think it's the number of student tickets that does it, but the location of the students.  seems to be the trend to shove the students into the corners, while KSU students get to stay courtside.

having them all together and right across the score's table helps no doubt.  I just wish that opposing teams were still on the student side.  that was awesome.

Not sure, my bro told me that they oversold student tix this year on purpose just to make sure that they pack the house.  BTW, he is the one that made the Topeka CJ and Wichita Eagle with body paint and the Jacob "Abe Lincoln" Pullen poster.  I'm impressed that I have taught him so well.

^^ this -- we better not effing change this ^^ either

Even better, I think we should move the student sections around the south east corner and limit how hight the students can sit.  Put GA above them in Secs 19-25ish.  Keep the # the same (mayb decr by 500?) but give them more seats closer to the action.

I love where the students sit now.  The camera during the game is always facing them. Even on a night when people can't travel in 12 feet of snow the place still looks packed and loud.  Best student section in the country in my slightly biased opinion.

Booster money is ruining college athletics by destroying the atmosphere.  A bunch of people just realized that on Monday night.

Won't be long until they stop installing bleachers in new stadiums and just turn it into one gigantic tiered sports bar with a field in the middle.

This is very true.  As good as the students have been the last few years, the fact that the camera show this solid mass of humanity all the time really makes the entire crowd seem better than it probably is.  And in comparison to other Phillips 66 arenas it is pretty good right now.

It's both. Also consider places like ku and stuff. They don't sell nearly as many student tickets because of all old people willing to pay more.

lol @ sitting behind the baskets. like their sudden little arm motions from left to right during a free throw ever really messes the player up.

This is why us old-timers remember Ahearn so fondly. Students had one whole side of bleachers on a first-come, first-get basis (It was a melee to get seats when the doors opened. It's a wonder there was never a Who-like concert mass trampling) and about half of the other. The first few rows in Ahearn put you right on the action, especially when they had the raised court.

The OOD is great, too. And I'm proud of you guys for Monday. As we used to chant when after a bad season when we were beating the hawks, "We're back ku, we're back."

Sports Science did an experiment on how visual distractions affect FTs.

Verdict: hardly at all.

A threat to change the student seating in Ahearn was a big part of the blackmail that resulted in the students approving their fee apportion when Bramlege was built.

IIRC, there was also a student section behind the visitors bench.  I didn't ever sit there as they were reserved seats and we could get better seats by camping out and rushing in when the doors opened.

Students should always have some of the best seats in the house.  The team is a part of them and as many students should be able to see them at a reasonable price.  If the fans with $$ want to get tickets, make them pony up to the bar for what is left after a fair student allotment.  If the product on the court is good, they will pay enough to offset having good student seating.  Having a great atmosphere driven by students is worth more ti the success of the program than getting a few more $$ per ticket.

Unfortunately, the powers that be (way beyond KSU's admin) don't like that behind the visitors bench seating anymore.

I was at the CU game, which was sold out.  The students were all packed behind the basket in the second half.  I think they had an influence on at least a few free throws, especially with the young players.

But I wouldn't want to move the students from where they are in Bramlage.  I think K-Staters just happen to be a pretty raucous bunch to begin with.  Not sure why..maybe it's because most of the fans actually come from Kansas.

Some tard called the Frank Martin show on Tuesday night saying they should put the students behind both baskets.  Frank just told him to e-mail John Currie about it....perfect timing to get lost in the angry contract extension e-mails.
