Title: Knight to Frank

Martin started to tell Knight, whose hand he was shaking for the first time, how much he’d always respected him. Knight, the longtime coach and now an ESPN announcer, cut him off.

“To hell with that,” he said. “We need to get you to run a better offense.”

Knight was still talking. He was telling Martin how his offense wasn’t run smoothly enough, how his guys weren’t using the right angles, how that very well could have cost Martin this win.

“I’d be glad to help if you call me tomorrow,” Knight said.

“I’ll call you in the morning,” Martin said.

“This almost cost you the game,” Knight went on. He lowered his voice: “…he makes bad offensive decisions,” he growled.

Knight may be an uncouth @ss, but he does know how to run an offense and if you're Frank Martin you listen.  Face it, not everybody has all the answers and the minute you think you do then you're sure to be facing a downward slide.  I'm glad Knight cares enough to want to contribute his massive ego....and even more glad Martin doesn't have such a massive ego that he won't make the call.

People are hungering for this story to have a great ending

Guys, when are we going to start the "good job" or "well done" chant that Knight insisted?

That coming from the Bob Knight, he must have been on anti-depressants or something...

With a comfortable lead? with 2:00 min left.

Bullsh*t.  Knight never had an offense more efficient than Martin's this year in his last 4 seasons.  Just because it doesn't look the way Bobby Knight and Gene Hackman think it should look, doesn't mean it doesn't work.

Been watching the replay.  Knight is horrible.  He f*cking groans and crys every time he doesn't agree with how a team is playing.

Guys, sorry, but style points matter. I've promised our friends to the east that we will strive to do great offensive things like backdoors, sweet high-low action, and relentless inside-out ball movement, even at the cost of losing. For the good of the game, people.

Huggy should've went up to Bob after the twenty point win during the Phillips 66 tournament back in 06-07 season and told him to work on his offensive game plan.

THIS

KSU was running set plays and starting them with about 15 seconds on the shot clock.  We were eating clock and Knight took it as standing around. He was mad we weren't running motion offense.

knight will never understand the beauty of pounding it inside, drawing fouls, and getting putbacks.  if its not a wide open 15 ft jumpshot after 6 passes, its not basketball to him.  game passed him by 25 yrs ago.

Of course Knight is going to sound like a dick if you just skim through those comments. Knight sounds like a dick every time he opens his mouth, that's just Bob.

But in all semi-seriousness, I honestly got the feeling watching the tape of the game that Knight would have given anything to be coaching one of the teams on the floor that night. He hasn't seen raw athletic talent like that in his life. I doubt Knight goes around offering coaching advice to every douche nozzle he runs in to, so when I heard he waited around in the tunnel just to talk to Frank my first thought was that's pretty damn cool. Just shows you the kind of respect Frank and the team are earning. It sure ain't 1976 anymore, but I'm sure the guy still knows a little somethin' about basketball. But I digress

The Hypersensitive Frankites need to understand that for about 18 minutes of that game, K-State has no offense, and Knight is spot on in his constant harping that K-State needed to get better motion inside with its bigs . . . a few screens from one big on another big's defender would have been open all F'ing day.

Geez . . . some of you folks are starting to sound more and more like the Snyder defenders.

i do not know who would disagree with you. I get frustrated when denis is standing at half court dribbling while everyone is just standing around.

The motion would help us too....Cats are absolutely wearing people out with  defensive pressure and fast break.  Throw in some motion and bone-jarring screens on the offensive end....they're just gonna break people.

Face it, missed lay-ups aren't some anomaly; everyone is missin' 'em because the defensive poundin' the Cats are dishing out is taking its toll.

I took more issue with him criticizing a 35% three point shooter making a wide-open 3 in the first half than anything he said in the 2nd.  But he's still an annoying retard.

There is only so much time to practice per week and clearly Frank spends much of it on defense and rebounding.  I'm sure plenty is on offense, but he's not going to throw out some motion offense.  To be kind, I'm sure Frank would listen out of respect to Knight, maybe even implement a wrinkle or two, but Frank has a system and it works just fine.

Just look at the offensive efficiency of his teams.  I mean we threw out Kent, Colon, and a young Jam-Sam in the paint last year and he still finished in the upper 1/5 of college basketball in offensive efficiency.  There is more to offensive basketball than offense.

Our offense looks like a prison shower most of the time. No doubt it could use some massaging. And Bob Knight might have some good pointers. Too bad he's such an ass about everything always.

I didn't have too much of a problem with the lack of rotation down low.  Basically gave the guards the option of either Kelly or Jamar on isolation plays.  If you are trying to avoid Damion James or Dexter Pittman matchups, this was the correct strategy.
