I'm thinkin on a national level the whole "Octagon of Doom" thing may sound a little juvenile or stupid or something. The word "doom" is a little....I don't know tardish. I don't think it has any staying power. Its something a fanbase which wasn't in it for the long haul would come up with. Thoughts?

Just so you know, over at powertard land they are sort of get all warm in their naughty regions for the name, opining on what brilliant mamba jamba came up with it, and another has stepped up and credited this site. Not sure if that last bit will turn the tide or not.

It has aerial photos of 91 NCAA basketball arenas, including Bramlage. 18 of these arenas are octagons. Assuming this is a random sample, this means that almost 1 in 5 NCAA basketball arenas are in fact octagons. At the very least, Bramlage is not unique in its shape. Suddenly, "The Octagon" doesn't seem like such a good nickname.
"Octagon of Doom" is marginally better, as it differentiates Bramlage as the only octagon where you will almost assuredly meet your doom. Okay, it's a little cheesy, but now that it's picking up steam, it will be tough to change it.
I'll try anyway. Might I suggest, THE CAGE
It's short, catchy and ominous-sounding. It evokes MMA, which is often fought in octagonal cages. It conveys the idea that once you step inside THE CAGE, you're in for a serious pounding. It also could mean that THE CAGE is where rabid Wildcats may be found, so you better be prepared if you're going to get inside.

Although the facts may be a bit wrong/missing info...Gottlieb should get the credit for its first mention, and Doom should get credit for his signs and Frank should get credit for giving it "official" recognition.

no doubt. i thought i remembered a thread where we were daring someone to do it and he was just the cub for the job. i remember him taking a picture of it and showing us when he did it. he had a nasty blue recliner chair iirc.
