Title: MHK is lucky they missed out on crappy ORD Super Thread
Post by: The42Yardstick on January 10, 2010, 11:18:00 AM
It's basically Dallas-Fort Worth International "North." Only difference is that it has snow a lot. Here's what always happens when you fly through these FAILports:

1. You'll be sitting on the tarmac for like a fracking hour

2. Something will ALWAYS go wrong -- your flight will get canceled, your bags will get lost, TSA will take a particular interest in your rectal area, etc

3. Your connecting flight is always in a terminal that's like 5 miles away from you (not that the exercise is bad or anything it's just that you have 20 minutes to connect so you're screwed)

I don't care that these airports both have :AA: , they're pretty much the opposites of elite.

Edit: Examples of elite airports: Austin, Kansas City, Outagamie County Regional Airport (Wisconsin), El Paso

I flew in/out of Phili every week for about a year and it was a virtual lock every week to have to sit on the tarmac for over 30 minutes.  Phili is the worst I have ever experienced for on-runway delays....the &@#%ing play games with the stats.  They figure that if they get you out of the gate then they get to count it as an on-time departure. :curse:

not even sure how you can make a dfw/ohare comparo. dfw is just drop dead gorgeous. ohare? not so much. ohare is like that guy that was maybe kind of cool in highschool but then didn't go to college and instead got a job in hvac and hung out in townie bars for twenty years and now he's a divorced forty year old w/ two kids in the neighboring town and two pack a day habit.

I had 36 hours of flying to do on my way to S.A. so I bought a new book. My first flight was MCI to Ohare and then 20 mins later that plane would leave for JFK. So I was going to wait out the twenty mins on the airplane with some other people, but then we were told it was going to take more than an hour but if we wanted to we could still stay on. So I got off and left my book on the plane. Then the &@#%ers switched planes on me and I lost my book. Will never forgive them. :curse:

dfw = beautiful.  free internet.

In o'hare right now, and I think you negative nancies were off your rockers.  O'hare has a Macaroni Grill and a Chilis Too in the same areas!  A Chilis Too for crying out loud!  I'm thoroughly enjoying myself.

My favs:

KCI - Easy in/out
MEM - Many drinking spots
MCO - Ditto on the drinking spots
DCA - Never had any probs there.   to people watch. Stood next to Ted Koppel once. Short bastard.
SAN - Absolutely love the weather when walking out. Just love it.

My hates:

SEA - Worthless f*cking place.
ATL - Same
LNK - Ditto

I think MCI is far from elite. You're only food option in the secure zone is a vending machine.

ATL is elite. Underground trains and stuff and plenty of places to eat/drink

CVG is all right. Kind of like Memphis but no fun riding walkways

MEM is elite because you can ride the really long riding walkways all over the airport during your layover, then go drink practically anywhere.

edit
Complete crap airports:

HSV - one place to drink. Very small and crapty. Not the airports fault

OMA - (sorry SD) Kind of like HSV but at least it's the "Cleanest airport in the world" or whatever it says on the pissers.

Truth. Having to go through security to make a connection excludes MCI from elite status.

Hate Chicago. Will not fly through O-Hare. Go through ATL or DFW when flying out of BWI (just go direct to MCI when flying out of Dulles).

Sidenote: My sister flew out to BWI from a tiny airport in Branson when the storm canceled her flight out of MCI. Said there was four gates and three TSA employees. No confirmation on Cinnabon/Wok-n-roll presence. Overall, rated her experience good/very good/will fly again.

Fav's:

Minn/St. Paul
ORD
Charlotte

Meh, but never had any real problems:

MCI-It's so easy but so small time for a larger city.
DFW-Only had 1 bad experience there when AA ran me all over hell.
O'Hare-Only flown through there 3 times, never any real issues.
Raleigh-Don't like the layout that much, but pretty easy

Do not like:

ATL

 :fiesta:

I just used to work at MHK and know people that work there.  They stopped training/hiring for the Great Lakes side because its contract is up, I believe before summer, and not getting renewed.  A large reason has to do with DFW kicking so much ass, A-Eagle is looking to add another DFW flight a day (theyre constantly overbooked) and adding ORD.  Once ORD is there, they are pretty much splitting the country in half, no reason for GL.  DIA would be nice as a United Hub if the plane didnt suck and it was ever reliably on time.  Another reason might be they are bitter they weren't notified about A-Eagle potentially coming in but seeing as how their station got contracts to handle those flights I would think they got over it.

Just the word on the street bro, and from pretty reliable people, granted not guaranteed yet.

I'll throw him a bone and say it was because he's new to the job . . . but so far, he's no Wefald in terms of being a salesman.   But given the fact that we have record enrollment and are pretty much running at capacity, we don't need a salesman for students.

give me o'hare or another early morning "business friendly" flight to DFW.

I hear rumblings that if the DFW flights continue strong that other options may be added.

The one good thing is, some folks were worried that there may not be enough business, but that's clearly not the case.

time to end the ORD pipedream. look at AA's ORD connections. you don't see MHK type destinations.

Look at all the sh*tty missouri towns they fly to. I mean Kirksville?  Please.

Yeah, there's tons of more WTF destinations than MHK.  We deserve this.  We've earned it.

I'm in ORD right now.  I just went to perform what I call a "wallet check" and when I reached down there I f*cking cut my finger on the plastic seat cover because it is all ripped up and sh*t with orange/yellow foam sticking out.  ORD SUCKS!

Oh, and I'm sitting accross from a women's room that has been closed for cleaning for over twenty minutes.  There was a JAP who got all pissy because she had to walk for a minute down to the next one, which was kinda fuuny, but, seriously, what kind of operation is this?

Don't know.  It was AA, though.  Will post pics when I can.

ord is just horrible, but it would be nice to have an mhk flight in and out of there once a day. wouldn't be surprised if it happens. ft riley and their growth is really behind AA and their flights in and out of mhk and it's going to be growing quite a bit in the next three years.

I agree.  It would be totally amazing to have MHK flights to that sh*thole.

thanks chum. the fact you took the pics means very much to me.

ORD seems to put the big time bucks into termy 1.
