Title: Weddings
Post by: hemmy on December 29, 2009, 08:05:13 PM
I am sure we have some very fashionable folks here at KSUfans.  What kinda of clothes do you wear to some1 elses wedding, who you kinda know, but not that great.

Please give advice below this post, thx.

Coat and tie unless otherwise directed in the invite.  Doesn't have to be a suit, could be a navy blazer and nice slacks.  Blazer and slacks should look good together.  I've worn navy blazer, light tan slacks, white dress shirt, with tie, socks and shoes to match.  A nice suit works well.  I would say wear what you wear to church, but people don't dress up for church like they used to...

Important note.  You are not the star attraction.  Don't wear a tuxedo or other formal wear that would upstage the wedding party.

Oh and I'm not really a fashionable guy.  Just classless...

Make sure you stick around for the reception. Nothing better than drunk bridesmaids.

Whatever you do, don't take fashion advice from Cyclist.  Dude is like 80 and rides a bike everywhere.  Most likely wears spandex shorts much of the time as well.

As a fellow ITer, i've had to do a little more working out then i used to in high school. Apparently when you sit at a desk with a computer all day, you lose your metabolism. It sucks.

Yep, I am still in school but after class I have work as a contracted software developer, so I am sitting all day long.

You can still wear a suit without a tie.  Lord knows George Clooney does it in basically every single movie.

This. Plus, make sure you have a little scruff on the ol' chin. I always recommend going full-Mahmoud to weddings. Great place to meet virgins.

I once wore a spandex time trial suit, bolo tie and cycling shoes to a wedding.  So JTKSU is correct, I'm not the one to take fashion advice from...

;)       ;)        ;)        ;)

Actually, I've never wore a spandex time trial suit, bolo tie and cycling shoes to a wedding and I did provide reasonably sound fashion advice for a wedding, contrary to what that classy bastage JTKSU says.  Your mileage may vary...

White shirt, black jacket, no tie, no undershirt (at least not visable...this is key), black pants MUST be by same designer or a matched set, non-black pants can be about anything (inc. jeans if it's casual), black loafers, black socks.

shirt (probably not white), pants (better than casual dockers) and a tie.

No offense to slucat (who is a girl   ) but if any of my friends ever wear a tie without a jacket they are going to get a serious dressing down by sd.

Went to my redneck uncle's funeral a few years ago.  Upstaged everyone there with my suit, didn't feel bad about it either.

Need more info.  Please post a picture of all the clothes in your closet, and then I'll select a combo based on what you have.  Also, this process will go more smoothly if you pin a little number to each item in your closet before taking the picture.  I know this seems like a lot of work, but it'll pay off "handsomely" on the day of the wedding.

This sounds fantastic.  My closet is pretty embarrassing, though.  Very casual workplace.

if he's working in OSX he should use "Paintbrush" - can't remember though if Hems is an Apple guy or a PC d00d, I think he likes the Apple.

1) do what gosp said to do if possible.

2) if it is not possible then do what sd said. make sure that your white shirt does not have buttons to hold the collar down. george brett made this mistake once and has never lived it down.

Wear a great suit and tie.  This is the answer to most "what should I wear to this dress up event?" question.

A great suit sets fantastically looking guys apart.  And there will be at least one other fantastically good looking guy at most weddings so you had better be ready for his challenge.  Ya digg  8-)
