From FootballScoop.com: (if old news, sorry!)
Illinois:
Our sources have confirmed that Head Coach Ron Zook has interviewed Kansas State Co-Defensive Coordinator Vic Koenning for the Defensive
Coordinator spot with the Illini.
:users:
-
Football is so depressing, heading to this board -----> :skillz:
-
I wonder if Vic dislikes his "CO-D Coordinator" status. I'm thinking he wants to be "D-Coordinator."
-
snyder v1.0 = snyder v2.0 = no good coaches want to work for him and/or he can't retain good coaches.
-
footballscoop's sources are school message boards. I think he'll leave, but I don't think he'll be heading to Illinois.
-
footballcoachscoop.com might be the most unreliable site o the internet. Stealing every random message board and fan site blog posting and claiming it as their own.
Let me be the FIRST TO REPORT the EXCLUSIVE BREAKING NEWS that footballcoachscoop sucks balls.

This.^
But, at the end of the day, this will be some idiocy about him "wanting to be closer to his family" or "the real estate market" or some other concocted bullsh*t to deflect the culpability off Snyder for his inability to retain a cohesive staff.
-
footballcoachscoop.com will print anything emailed to them. Some guys on a blog did this to them by emailing them that Bilema was taking the job and Notre Dame and they posted it.
-
Footballscoop.com was also the site who reported Harbaugh was going to be the next ku coach.
How does Zook still have a job at Illinois. I thought he was going to get fired after this season?
-
-
Someone on here needs to send a couple of "rumors" to this site, see how long before they post
-
Ok, so the goat &@#% that was bobby elliott and brett bielema and the worthless half of that co-dc stayed hewre and Beilema went to coach @ wisky is happening again? Perfect. If this happens again, it is the beginning of the end of OBz ver 2.0.
This could be horrible.

Losing Koenning would be devastating. Snyder needs to give him whatever he wants. Why isn't Cosh interviewing anywhere? Oh yeah that's right they know that Vic was the brains behind the defense. Cut Cosh loose and promote Vic to full time d coord. Who cares if we lose Cosh's 3 star qb son. He wouldn't play qb for snyder's offense anyways.

Actually the same sight said Cosh was in the running for the ULM HC job.

From the Atlanta Journal Constitution...
http://blogs.ajc.com/recruiting/2009/12/14/roundup-mason/?cxntfid=blogs_recruiting
Rivals.coms Anthony Dasher had the most revealing update on the UGA D-coordinator search Ive seen yet. He talked to Kansas States Vic Koenning and Koenning did nothing to discourage the notion he might be interested in joining the Bulldogs. Check out his quote:
Georgias a great place and Coach Richt is a fantastic coach, but I dont think Im at liberty to say right now. Ill just say it would be a great honor to be considered for that, but thats all I can. . . . Its not my place to say or not say. I learned a long time ago not to say a lot about this type of thing because it can be construed the wrong way.
Maybe he should have learned a long time ago to not say anything.
-
Thanks for the memories Vic. Cosh, please leave.

QFT. I love how in b-ball you can keep your coaching staff intact for years on end but when it comes to football you lose an assistant coach every year or so it seems.

Maybe someone should call and give him a reccomendation. Then Bill can bring BV back.

If Vic is stupid enough to jump on that sinking ship then maybe it is a good thing he is leaving. :powertard:

at least Vic broght those 5 stars with him.

If only we knew of a DC that can recruit and could be a possible HCIW.

What if said person had ties to K-State? Is it possible that such a person exists?

Can't wait until that P.O.S. is fired next year after Illinois struggles mightily again.
-
surprised he left with so many of his kids getting ready to be college aged pretty soon. rumors of financial probs much have been untrue. obviously didn't need football scholarships for any of them.
-

You don't know Vic that well, he's already gaining support behind Zook to be the Interim HC when Zook is fired....genius.

Well, Snyd's is yet again proving to be the complete disaster we all knew he would be. The second verse, same as the first............
Can't recruit worth a sh*t: Check
Can't maintain the top assistants on his staff: Check
A lateral move to Illinois? JFC, just freaking retire, OB. Again.

Yeah, let's ponder the recruiting led by the current Wisky coach. Went against all the standards put forth by Snyder (but it was hip and Rivals ranking friendly) and it all amounted to suckage. Snyder's method may not get Rivals Ranking stars, but it does get kids that end up being pretty good.
As to losing assistants, it happens. VK leaving for a lateral job just confirms the rumors that floated from almost day one - the workload (time doing work to meet Snyder's expectations) was more than he wanted to give. The reality is that Snyder will have some names on his list and contacts will occur.
That said, his choices should tend to be for younger coaches. They are more energetic, will put up with the longer hours, and they usually aren't bad at recruiting.

Why the frack is he leaving his alma mater for Illinois? Is he getting paid a lot more? :curse:
-

he will, and he never wanted to be here in the first place.
-
Well...$hit.
-
I'm really not concerned in the least, we'll promote from inside or find another, either way the recruiting can only improve.
-
Vic Koenning? More like Dic Koenning. amirite?
-
Let's be honest did anyone on this site honestly believe Vic was the long-term solution to our defense?
Not saying Cosh is, but Vic wasn't exactly tearing it up on the recruiting trail and the fundamentals our defensive staff taught the same players that Tibs did such a shbt-azz job on was more responsible for our improvement on defense than any play-calling by Vic.
We desperately need some young blood on the staff with this hire, though.
-
I'll say it up front, that this news disappoints me. I was :dancin: when OB hired VK. I thought VK did a great job all things considered.
But as I talk to folks who would know . . . and based on this news, it's quite apparent VK had no intention to stay at K-State and only took the job because K-State was the firmest offer for the most money.
Where blame should really lie is with OB himself. Come on . . . there were inklings from the word GO that VK wasn't going to hang around long.
I agree with Special K, we need young coaches who can be ramped up to teach the system well, but who are hungry recruiters.
-
This BS just reminds me of the whole Elliott/Beilema thing... I felt sick when Brett left and I feel the same way now.
To sum up what I am reading here: fck Vic - he's leaving cuz he cant hack the long hrs that OBz demands. Cosh isn't the answer and we need new "fresh" blood infused into this program... so why in the FCK didn't we just get some young guys who are full of piss and vinegar to begin with? This is turning into the joke that it was when OBz retired. Thank god that the north is down or our ineptitude would REALLY show.

Why the frack is he leaving his alma mater for Illinois? Is he getting paid a lot more? :curse:
Something to the tune of $200,000 more. If you could almost double your salary in a profession that has turned into "What have you done for me lately?..." wouldn't you go also? I'm disappointed, but not necessarily surprised.
-
This is a comlete disaster. We'll never be able to attract high quality coaches. We already can't afford It's Patterson. We're going to be a revolving door of crappy coordinators from here on out.
-
Bumpas, McCarney.
Chances? Thoughts?

Old people are notoriously tight with their money. I've been getting 10 bucks and some Werthers Originals from my grandpa for my birthday for like 25 straight years.
This stuff happens, folks, even in college football.

Maybe he thinks he's jumping off of a ship that's sinking faster? :dunno:

but seriously, Koenning didn't do much, other than walk into a league where every decent offensive weapon left the year before. I could have "improved" the defense as much as he did.

Koening and Snyder have never seen eye to eye when it comes to off the field stuff. Snyder has commented he's going to continue with his style of recruiting, and waiting until the end of the HS SR.'s senior season before offering. Koening doesn't see that as working, and so he's looking elsewhere. And while he went to Kansas State, he wasn't here during the Snyder era, so there really isn't the 'loyalty' per se that you may find or think.
That's just what I've heard from people around the water cooler that are somewhat in the know. Koening is much more 'aggressive' in recruiting, and since Snyder isn't, Koening wants to do something different. :ksu: :ksu:

Adaptation is a b!tch, Snyder. Of these two philosophies, I'd say I like VicK's better.

I hear VK had some recruits in South Carolina willing to follow him anywhere.

Yes. His name is Chris Cosh.

Hey, stormy, remember those Chris Cosh defenses of 2004 and 2005 that paved the way for our back to back last place finishes to cap OB's career the first time?
You know, those ones that only averaged 32 points a game in conference play.....
I'm assuming you do realize this is the same Chris Cosh.

Don't like Cosh as a DC but to compare him to the lazy eyed wonders is just bullcrap. Stop fantarding it up :angryMJ:

The reason we're backed into a fracking corner with no scholarships right fracking now is because of the offer early mentality. Not saying I"m completely comfortable with the old way, but I sure as hell don't like being stuck in this situation.

What a load of $hit. One check of any recruiting site will prove that this isn't true. We're pretty much full on scholarships right now. I suspect he left for 2x paycheck rather than an alleged disagreement on when to offer scholarships.

Why? $$$$$$$$$. Question, how many of you wouldn't take a 200+K raise? I would myself. From what I have read he will make 470K at Illionis and he made 265K last year at KSU for doing the same job.
Same old story, Bill/or KSU won't pony up to keep good coaches.

Uhhhhh, yeah.
Unfortunately operation calm waters still doesn't include pay for our most important assistants comensurate with other top level BCS programs.
-
Yea I thought the Vaniers set up a fund to pay coaches well. 260K doesn't get it anymore for high quality coordinators. I have a problem with head coach salaries, why do they make several million per year at colleges? Many/most of them state funded, and yet expect their top assitants to make 260K? The whole system is broken IMO, but then again it isn't going to change either.
I think if a coach wants to make several million per year then they should be in the professional sports. Seems like every year when season ticket renewals come up and ticket prices go up as well I think of saying &%%^ you but then again I always renew so I guess I am part of the problem.

Yea I have bought 5 season tickets for the past 15+ years and donate $750 to the Ahearn fund each year .

there was an interesting post on phog re. this. no idea if the poster is correct (i guess i thought asst coaches were normally 1 year contracts?), but he seems confident, intelligent and attractive.
This may sound weird, but coordinator jobs with a coach on the hot seat are very attractive jobs, and it's because most assistant contracts are 2 year deals. The typical timeline for a coach about to get fired is to get brand new coordinators his last season in desparation, still not meet standards, and get fired. If that coach gets fired, coordinators usually get let go while still being under contract. Coordinators walk away with 2 years of salary for 1 year of work.
