One has to wonder if tubberville has any real interest in ku's program, because I agree prince he would be a great hire.

I know right that hire would almost be equivalent to us hiring huggins. if I was TT I would be recruiting the sh1t out of kids right now.

guess we dodged a bullet on this one. :woot:

so...what does everybody think? i think gill has a chance to be decent. can't see him winning the north or anything though. jmo though. don't really know a whole lot about the guy. seems like he is too uptight to be a good recruiter. hopefully his staff is familiar w/ big12 area. maybe he'll hire a completely new staff???

I just can't reiterate enough how awesome this is.  If he sucks, they fire him.  If he's successful, he goes to Nebraska.

We should all chip in and buy Lew a Cabela's gift card.  I mean, seriously.  TUBERVILLE WAS AVAILABLE AND INTERESTED.

If true, this is simply a terrible hire.  Did they even try to go after Tuberville?  Really strange.

All I can say is that Tuberville had better be motherf*cking radioactive for one reason or another. I don't get why we didn't pursue him more.

However, I'm not gonna throw Gill under the bus just yet. I'm gonna go get a bunch of  and watch the phog meltdown right now.

I don't know why we're laughing.  This is a way more dangerous hire than the flavor of the month Harbaugh.  If Harbaugh was good, he would've gone to Michigan in a few years.  The problem here is if BoPeep keeps Nebraska solid and Gill improves ku like he did Buffalo.  Worst case realistic scenario for us.

Why This sucks

Gill is an outstanding human being, very hard to hate someone of his class, ethics, stature, character, etc.
It was so easy to hate ku when they had that human cesspool cheating his arse over their working for the slimiest scum bag in the business.  They were the perfect antagonist to our program.

Which brings me to another point:  How in the he!! is this guy going to fit in over there?  They're going to expect him to be shady, recruit low life players, cover stuff up, lie to donors, befriend Massa Seff, etc.  I just don't see him doing that, I doubt he'll be there very long, he will become physically sick with the ethics and going-ons of that athletic department.

Gill is a nice guy very religous.  If I'm a ku fan I'd be worried he won't cut the corners he needs to win at ku.  They just had the biggest scumbag coach in the country who cut every corner there was and he could only muster one winning conference season in 8 years.   That is the thing you don't see anyone print or hear anyone say.  They'll say Mangnio treated players poorly and unethically but they won't say he basically cheated, lied and stole to gain a competitive advantage from the second he stepped foot in Lawrence.

ku moved quickly w/ gill within the last 24 hours because sumlin turned cincinatti down and then cincinatti quickly turned their attention to gill. ku didn't want to lose gill to cincinatti. thus the quick contract and the signing of it. lol.

cincinatti head football coaching job > ku head football coaching job

Don't understand why it's a terrible hire.  Seems pretty good to me.  Buffalo was the worst program in the country when Turner took the job.

Out of curiousity, if a coach took over the worst football program in the country and his first four seasons went as follows:
1-10
5-6
7-4
5-6

How would you evaluate their performance -- great / good / fair / poor.  Would this person be deserving of being the head coach of a BCS conference team?

Is there any question that the ku star and Lew were pumping a little sunshine regarding interest from other potential coaches?  No way they would hire Gill if some of the other names were interested.   Nothing against Gill, but no way if TT/JH were really interested.

FYI those numbers I posted aren't Gill's, but for a different coach.  Mystery Coach took over a program as bad as Buffalo and those are his results after his first 4 years.  Tell me, would you say this mystery coach is any good, based on those numbers?

The relevance is simply the failure of Mr. Gill to, as your kind say, "Git r done".   Regardless if it's against the University of Miami in 1984 or against the University of Texas in 2009.  Your relevance is simply disappearing.  And it makes me happy.  No worries! We really do love you!!!

Gill is a fantastic hire for ku, IMO (particularly with the experience coordinators he's supposedly bringing in).  Just a big step down in the name-recognition category when Harbaugh seemed like a distinct possibility and Tommy Tuberville was begging for consideration.

Just amazing that sooooo many ku fans are upset about this hire.  Given the recent history of their football program, that's pretty rich.

Judging by how these coaching transitions go, I doubt that Tubs was truly all that interested in ku, regardless of what he told the Star.  Was probably just throwing his name out there to see if he could get any feelers from other schools.

In that same vein, I'm guessing someone in ku AD office leaked the Harbaugh stuff to speed up the process with Gill.

Nothing is what it seems when it comes to coach searches.  Except when Weefer is involved and it is all fracked up, then it is exactly what it seems.

Pretty sure Tubs was really interested his  name isn't getting brought up for any jobs.   He's mid 50's and going on his second year of not working.  I'm sure he'd take any BCS job he could get and might end up settling for a non BCS job.

Also pretty sure that ku went after Harbaugh and had Gill as a back up plan.  Lew wanted to make a big splash and Harbaugh was his first choice.   As soon as Harbaugh turned it down they went right to Gill.
