Title: HOT J-HAWK RUMOR
Post by: Chingon on December 08, 2009, 01:57:28 PM
My sources are whispering the name "Skip Holtz".....

It seems like the Houston coach is not a desirable by the big money folks and local high school coaches.

more to come....

Dear Friends:

First and foremost I want to thank you for your support of Kansas Athletics. I know it’s been difficult over the last several weeks for all of us, especially our student-athletes.

I appreciate Mark Mangino’s efforts to move our football program forward and I am now looking for a coach who will take that and build even further.

We are in the midst of our search and selection process. I am excited about the possibilities before us and want to assure you that finding the right coach who fits with the work ethic, dedication and heart of Kansas Athletics and the  University of  Kansas is my number one priority.

None of our success is possible without your support, and for that I sincerely thank you. Please know that we will do our best to keep you informed, though I realize media seems to find a way to share both accurate and inaccurate information – a lot of times before we know it. In my 41 years of experience in athletics, I’ve found it best not to comment on each name that’s thrown our way by the press. So until you see an official announcement from us, don’t believe everything you read.

Once we find our next  University of  Kansas football coach, I will gladly introduce him to you!

Sincerely,

Lew Perkins
Kansas Athletics Director

Another new name has surfaced relating to the Kansas football head coach opening: Minnesota coach Tim Brewster.

Minnesota athletic director Joel Maturi addressed speculation of Brewster being interested in the ku job with the St. Paul Pioneer Press on Tuesday, saying he “can’t guarantee” Brewster will return next season. Maturi said he spoke with Brewster but didn’t ask him directly about the ku opening. Maturi said he had not been contacted by ku athletic director Lew Perkins, but that didn’t seem to surprise him.

“I’m smart enough to know that (Brewster’s) not going to tell me; nor is the athletic director at Kansas going to tell me until it’s a done deal,” Maturi said. “I chatted with (Brewster) about it very, very briefly. I told him I’m getting tired of all these Kansas calls. I know how the game is played. I know how it is. I’m respectful of that. I’m not going to believe the rumors until they’re fact.”

Under Brewster, the Golden Gophers have gone 14-23 the last three seasons. They have made the Insight Bowl in back-to-back seasons. Last year, Kansas beat Minnesota 42-21 in the Insight Bowl; this year, Minnesota faces Iowa State.

Brewster spent 2002-04 coaching the tight ends for the San Diego Chargers and 2005-06 in the same role with the Denver Broncos. His only connection to the Big 12 is the four seasons he spent coaching the Texas tight ends from 1998-2001.

Brewster reportedly makes a salary of $1 million.

I don't see why Brewster would want to leave Minnesota for uk.   Sweet ass, brand new facilities>>>>>Field with a track and a trailers in the end zone.  Middle of Minneapolis >>>>>>>>Flyover country.  Dude's just going to use this to get himself a nice little raise.  Must suck to get prostituted around as much as Lew has been lately.

Yeah, Gill really worked some magic with that program.  All the way from arguably the worst program in the country to a 101 RPI this year.

you're right

Much like what Mangino did with Kansas.......Gill took over a terrible D-1a program...gave them one good year....then returned to the cellar.

This could be a great fit for ku.

I agree Gill would be a good fit at ku he's a good guy and a decent coach.  I just hope ku fans don't turn on him for winning 6 games a year consistently.  I think that is about the best anyone can do at ku.
