Not unique, but typical.  And things typical of the Midwest aren't the same as things typical of the South, for example.

These things are typical to potlucks in general, regardless of geographic region.  There is a pot, if you're lucky it has something good in it.  Rarely it does.

You guys are complete idiots and don't know crap about potlucks.

You find soul food at potlucks in the South but not in the Midwest, dumbsh*t.  I don't know, but I'm guessing that they have lobsters and clam stuff and seafoody stuff in New England, dumbass.

Wrong again dumbass, people that participate in potlucks don't want to spend time or money or effort on the food.

One more time for the dumbasses in the audience tonight- potluck food rarely varies by geographical region.

If you want clams, go to a clam bake, dumbasses.

I've been around the pot-lucking basements of this nation quite a bit, and based on my extensive research and statistical analysis, the midwest clearly has a strong lean towards godawful dishes that have "cream-of-" soups as main ingredients...  nacho and other 'mexican' dishes, cassaroles, or 'chinese' food.

Hailing from the EC, there is a difference and, Piss you know better...
we have covered dish suppers, and we have them much less frequently.  Fewer jello molds, lil' smokies (I don't think I'd had one until I moved out here), and a lot of other gross stuff is left out back east.

Never been to an east coast pot-luck, but I just attended a pot luck in Texas.  Only difference from a Kansas pot luck was: tamales instead of fried chicken, and instead of regular crappy mid-west iced tea, there was sweet tea, which is even more disgusting.  Also a few cajun-type dishes, which I never experienced at a Kansas pot luck.  I went strictly with items that appeared to be store-bought.  I don't trust the hygiene of most of these people (applies to people attending ANY pot luck, regardless of location) so not a chance I am eating something that came from their kitchen.
