Anybody else find it weird that our O-line, horrendous as it was for two years, actually appears to be improving?
People would say "No, Prince is a former O-line and specializes at that, you should expect improvement."
I would usually agree.
Except that Prince is using like 12 different people on the O-line. Surely the people that were second string to the crap O-line getting in the mix wouldn't actually help..?
Unless somehow Prince's techniques are actually improving their play(which I didn't think would happen this year.)

125 yards of rushing came in the 4th qtr.

That was Black Jesus. Leon had already broken 100 by the third quarter against Mizzou.

Leon had 91 at the end of the third. His last two runs in the end of the third were of 14 and 15 respectively.

Last year against CU, we had 37 rushes for 81 yards. I think that was with Clary, Handy, Bedore, Hafferty, and Wafford. CU's DL is obviously several notches above ISU this season. Gulp.

I heard McCarty continues to struggle with stress-related health problems. Some of that may account for the OL's slow start. It may also be due to the fact that Hafferty has not adjusted to the new expectations at all, and Spex & Boss just didn't ever have D-1 mentality.
The guy that has me puzzled is Derek Meyer. Prince was comparing him to D'Brickashaw, and *kapow* Meyer suddenly loses his spot to Stringer and Frieson. :confused:
Caleb Handy reminds me of Steve Washington. Everyone keeps projecting other guys to take his place, but he keeps holding on to a spot.

When we play ku, Prince will compare Barmann to Dan Marino. This isn't a surprise..

How can you dismiss yards in the 4th qtr.? That's when the proof is in the pudding with a running game.

now a defender or two go unblocked every other play.

with some bowl practices, we might be picking up the blitz 2/3 of the time by next fall!

Ok, now with all of this bowl practice talk. What the &@#% stops Prince from saying &@#% you to his players and saying that they either practice for a bowl (even if there isn't one to go to) or they don't play the next year. The first part won't be hard, he's done it before. The second part, I don't know..

The NCAA only allows you to practice if you are actually going to a bowl. If Prince did that (force players to practice w/o a bowl game), KSU would be in violation of NCAA rules.

Granted, ISU's defensive front isn't great (though its not nearly as bad as their secondary), but we are showing improvement as the season goes along. Prince's philosophy is definately different (rotating so many bodies) for the oline, but that might just be part of the building prosess for this season. I think our technique in zone blocking is getting much better, but we still need to work on leverage and maintaining the LOS. We are more assignment sound in that we aren't leaving people unblocked as much, but what ISU was doing to hurt our running game was simply having their DTs force our OG or OT into the backfield on stretch plays. We don't have to push guys 5 yards off the LOS, but we at least need to maintain it if not gain a couple yard push for Johnson/Patton to find seams and gain positive yardage. The cutback for the score is evidence we're getting better at sealing the backside and allowing the cutback lane for out backs.
I thought a big positive last week was our backs picking up blitzes as well. Patton and Johnson each had a big block or two that allowed Freeman time to hit open recievers down field.
CU's defense will be a stiffer test and a better measuring stick. Hopefully we continue to see progress these last 3 games.

Not dismissing, just saying that Mizzou didn't have their full first team in once the fourth started.
