People say Weber's success has come with Bill Self's players. Those people need to be reminded Self can recruit but can't coach his way out of a recreation-center all-comers league.

Anyone who believes otherwise is either ignorant to the game of college basketball, or hasn't seen Self coach, or went to ku.  The thesis of Self's entire coaching philosophy can be wrapped up on one statement:  I'm going to put better players/athletes on the floor than you.  If you need evidence to that fact look at the ku-KSU game in AFH.  Self made few, if any, second half adjustments.  He couldn't adjust to Wooly's second half coaching which is sad considering how easy of a game that would/should have been for them to win, but he was unable to call for the changes to his team that needed to be made.  Another example is his last two tourney appearances.  Put a Self coached team into a situation where the other team is willing to play harder than Self's 13 McDAA's and what you've done in effect is equalize the talent ku has year in and year out, the game then becomes about coaching and Self can't do it. It's sad too because so many ku fans (yes the ones that know so much about CBB), can't recognize his shortcomings.  He'll bring them plenty of 5-stars, and with those players will come success, but there will be plenty of home loses to KSU, 22 point loses at Texas, and 1st round exits as well.

Bill Self is the Mack Brown of college basketball, except Self doesn't have a national championship, doesn't have a natural head of hair, and he studders.

While the Self dig is nice, I'm surprised the rest wasn't lambasted.  Its pretty much the same arguement as you see from the "we don't want Mayo" crowd. :)

Just curious, do you think Self could last through another first round upset?  I would expect it would have to be a fairly awful one this year, I would guess probably to a 15 seed.  I don't see it happening but I also don't see them advancing past the sweet 16, IMO.  If he loses in the first round this year, he will be out by the end of next barring an elite 8.

They've got arguably the best back court in college basketball (insert similar description of the Miles/Lankford/Hinrich/Vaughn/Haase/Walters/Jordan/ etc etc etc teams).  But also similar to past ku teams, their frontline is lacking in depth.

It wouldn't surprise me at all to see them do well this season, but imo to advance in the tourney you need a stronger presence than what Kaun/Kleinman/Jackson/Arthur (wildcard) can deliver in the paint.

As long as Arthur isn't trying to showcase his range ala' Drew Gooden his junior year he will be good.  The back court will be great but they were last year as well.  I still buy into the theory that you CAN have too much talent and it can be detrimental to development.  ku has rush, chalmers, Arthur, Wright, and the freshman guard whose name escapes me that will have NBA on the mind this year.
