Post by: sys on November 28, 2009, 04:49:00 PM
this team is not fun to watch in the rebounding part of the game.

Kinda weird that we were so much better at it last year, but we have more athletic post players this year.

Sloppy game overall.  We are playing pretty hard, just ugly basketball.

Yeah.  Another one of these teams that puts their bigs on the perimeter a lot, makes it tougher.

That's what happens when you have 3 guys trying to block every shot.

The BBIQ is strong with this one.

Jordy wasn't even a 2 or 3 star. Our equivalents to him are CM and VO, and they both incredibly suck.

On the blocking shots; IMO its sort of a wash.  We block a ton of shots and force teams to shoot under 40% on 2-pt attempts.  Granted, we need it to come together more, but for the most part our defense is doing a lot of what it is designed to do.  I think we'll get better at picking spots and finding offensive players, but this is going to be a team that funnels the ball to shot blockers and gives up some open 3s when we get beat b/c of how we defend the perimeter.

I'm much more concerned about becoming more efficient with our offense and scoring.

So how much better a rebounding team early would Anderson had have made us?

Not really, because when you have guys leaving to help when it isn't needed, you create openings for dump offs and easy dunks.  When we play against teams with good perimeter players we will get absolutely smoked on the inside if we have guys leaving their man to help block shots three at a time.

Look at DK last year.  How many blocks did he have?  But he was a pretty good post defender and we didn't have guys running all over the court trying to swat shots they were getting in position to board.

Perhaps, but its probably somewhere in between.  Pretty sure just by listening to players and Frank that we don't want our bigs playing in the paint like DK (and Colon) last year; he wants the aggression and he wants this team to intimidate.  That said, we do need to get better on rotations and picking spots when to go try to block our shots.  I suppose you could say that some of what you said helped us to lose to Ole Miss, but I think that was more effort and intensity in playing our style than a proof that this style won't work.

There shouldn't be multiple people leaving there men to block a shot, and I don't think that's what Frank wants.  They'll learn, and be fine.

You can teach rebounding responsibility a lot easier than you can teach defensive aggression. I like the direction we're going.

In this case, I think it's pretty much the same thing.  I have full confidence that things will improve.

There's no logical reason based on Frank's track record to think otherwise.

will Colon replace Henriquez in the starting 5 once he comes back?

when is Colon coming back?

will this solve our defensive and rebounding problems?

i think Colon is definitely an upgrade over Henriquez right now especially if we are talking about defense and rebounding.  Colon def got the angry in him :angryMJ: and his positioning can't get any worse than the clueless rookies that are out there now.
