Lots of talk on other conference teams message boards claiming we cheat. Granted, most of these are coming from SLTH schools (UNL, ISU, OSU though I don't know if they can be called SLTH). So what do you think.
I don't think we do, but if it does come out we are cheating I will be pissed. Not because its wrong and it ruins the game or :blahblah:. But for two reasons...
1) We got caught. :banghead:
2) We haven't found the success that the good cheaters usually get to ie Kansas, Memphis. You know the schools that don't have the tangibles to be as good of a program as Duke, UNC and the like, but still are elite because they are elite cheaters. Thoughts? :users:
-
If we cheated, we'd have GRCOAT every year. Haven't you noticed how we miss out on tons of recruits because other schools pay them off while we refuse to?
-
Show me our national championship trophies. Then I'll say we cheat.
-
Yeah, we probably "cheat" but nothing more than everyone else. We aren't paying players or anything stupid like that. But, those fans of other schools should be pissed because their coaches are probably trying to cheat, but just aren't doing a good job at it.
-
one thing that bothers me is the fact that if we do slip up at all, and get caught, the NCAA would most likely POUND us to make an example of us. While the elites, uk, usc, nc, all get by unscathed.
-
Examples?
-
if we are we are sucking at it
-
I personally would like us to take this a step further and cheat in-game. Lots of nut punches, maybe check some oil during tie ups. Possibly get some sort of powder that we can blow in dude's faces and temporarily blind them. (Or permanently, that would also be okay.) See if maybe we can pay off some officials. Hire a fat guy to kneecap the opposing team's stud. That kind of stuff.

I don't understand why OSU fans would think this. Outside of Beasley, they've recruited far better than us over the past few years. Maybe they somehow think they're far more attractive to recruits?

Proabably. Wierd basketball snootiness in Stillwater. They are shocked they ever lose to OU in bball and would probably consider themselves just below elite.

Okie Lite people are just strange.
Sure, there's no doubt in my mind that K-State probably has a few little "extras" for its players just like everybody else . . . but we are no where near the level of ku on the cheating scale . . . I can't imagine anyone in the conference could touch ku in that respect, not even ou or texas. Just too many monied boosters over at ku who are allowed to hang out in the shadows . . . or in the case of one, right in plain sight.

FFS we couldn't even get Mike an iPod.

It's good to hear this. It means we are getting much better while those other teams aren't and they are jealous to the point that they have to resort to accusing our program of cheating. It's a great sign and I'm enjoying it.

please link the boards/threads with the cheating talk. there is little more enjoyable than reading a "kstate cheats" thread/post on a fellow big 12er's board.

disagree. it burns me when I see it on a texas board.
infuriating how they think barnes is an angel.
-
We've never been accused of cheating anytime the past 20 years. Take it as a compliment.

tony mitchell's mom could answer this question if it were aimed at MU

When it comes to handlers, certain coaches, etc. I'm sure (like pretty much everyone else) we do some interesting things, but I don't think we do/have done anything that clearly crosses the line. The NCAA has created a lot of gray area in this regard, and like most programs that recruit well, we work with every shade of gray we can. The NCAA recently did take some measures to clean some of that up, it will be interesting to see if this does actually cause any changes in recruiting practices by us or anyone else.

. . . but we are no where near the level of ku on the cheating scale . . .
It is very well known in coaching circles that ku pays players, it really isn't even a secret. Collins is usually the one most coaches will reference as getting a hefty sum of $$ to come play at ku, and like I said, its usually not speculation but regarded as factual info.
Add that to ku's publicly documented system of boosters providing cash or benefits (again, not speculation but things actually reported to the NCAA or actually published in a newspaper) — that is a very high water mark of cheating that would be very difficult to match. And thankfully, I don't think we are trying to.

The NCAA has a lot of rules as to what is "cheating" in recruitment, but there's still a lot of gray. It's cheating to put $100k in the pocket of a player or their parents, but its not cheating to give a parent a high-paying job at the university? It's cheating for a booster to give a nice car to a kid, but it's not cheating to hook that kid up with a "borrowed" car from a former player?
Bottom line: college basketball/football is, unfortunately, a shady business. If we want to succeed, we've got to play the same game, and work the same angles, as other programs. I'm fine with that just as long as we stay in the gray.
It's rumored that we have passed on recruits (or they have passed on us) because their parents demanded $$$. Don't know if it's true, but it wouldn't surprise me at all.

there is no grey with the ncaa. there is only prohibitted and permitted. white and black.
anyone that wants to paint some of the white area grey doesn't want to win enough.

Those concerned fans would be better served focusing on Baylor -- as well as the elites.
-
Yes...every school likely breaks or bends the rules in recruiting whether that's as little as calling at dead period, alumni slipping a few bills or xbox's etc to hookers and drugs...ala Texas. Some schools have the ability to cheat at a much bigger rate see USC and Reggie Bush.
-
years ago when a recruiter visited a poor top recruit they would bring in a new tv, vcr etc to watch tape with the family...then "forget" to take it with them....today I'm its pones, ipods etc...handshakes with staff and business men always included a $100
-
You are not elite unless your clocking Agent dollars...booster dollars are nickles and dimes

Strange thing about K State roster
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Did anyone else see the info on the K State roster. They basically transplanted the entire DC AAU team to Manhattan KS. including the coach of the team.
Michael Beasley was part of this prior to his departure. Something just smells funny about this. Why would all these kids decide Manhattan KS the place to be.
I bet we see some recruiting violations come to the surface right after this coach moves on to his next gig.

In recruiting Kstate is playing the same game that ku, Duke, Kentucky, Mich State play except those teams can afford to pay their recruits more than we can.

pretty obvious we'd have to pay more to out recruit those schools. heck, even rich schools like mich and ohio st and usc would prob have to pay more to beat those 4.

Don't be too harsh on Doug Compton. After all, he's a rich and successful jock-sniffer, not some run-of-the-mill jock sniffer. We don't have sugar daddies that will give Cole Aldrich's dad a cushy job so that ku can keep the #1 draft pick from going to the NBA, so we have to learn to live with it, I guess. I just wished my employer would pay my moving expenses from Minnesota to Kansas, too.

Shortlived...and duration subject to NCAA investigations that should have happened the moment Martin was affiliated with the program. Perhaps the NCAA will sacrifice an investigator to spend some time in manhattan to monitor the situation (if they do we, that increased attention will bite the mildcats for sure)

I'd love to see Delonte's Form 2106.

Haha... from fans of the team that signed Tony "My mom still wipes me" Mitchell. Tony's moms flat out demanded $$ from our staff at an AAU tourney last summer and was told to get &@#%ed.
-
Mitchell is costing them a pretty penny. There is no way he was going to go to mu without being compensated.

CycloneFanatic bringin it hard per usual.
I just want to say that I hate KSU basketball maybe more than any team in the nation. The entire program was built and is staying afloat from dirty recruiting. Plain and simple. Matter of fact, KSU is just a terrible school. Man, I hate KSU.
