Clearly not all facts of the Lawrence debacle have been made public, but based on what is known, Mark Mangino has become another victim of the pervasive i-didn't-earn-it-but-it's-owed-to-me-anyway mindset that is rampant in Lawrence and in the minds of student-athletes that are drawn to uk.
1. Mangino is accused of foul, vulgar, and abusive language toward current and former players.
2. Mangino is accused of inappropriate physical contact (thumping helmets, poking chests) with current and former players.
Granted, Mangino has had his run ins -- with the KSHSAA and with some poor parking attendant; he's had his outbursts captured on several You-Tube videos; and he's had his bouts with arrogance (just look at the guy). His words and actions have been seen as aggressive, hostile, and self-respecting.
In ANY OTHER university and at ANY OTHER time, these two items under investigation are laughable. With the liberal bastion that Lawrence has become and the give-me attitude of today's youth -- the ongoing investigation (review sounds too politically correct) is the result of a liberal athletic administrator bowing down to a liberal lynch mob (insert Shrek visual here).
Mangino should stand his ground, go public with the accusations and defend himself. What he's publicly accused of are the traits that any football coach should have -- aggressiveness, hostility, and self-respect. It's just these types of situations that will further mold him into his mentor -- a gray-haired man that doesn't have to drop f-bombs or grab face masks to get some punk kid's attention. Sticking up for one's self gains respect from others -- Mangino shouldn't walk by this opportunity to build upon his legacy at uk.
The preceding is not a paid political advertisement of the Palin/Mangino 2012 campaign.
