What the big man has accomplished at ku is beyond amazing considering they went from a joke in 2002 to playing in a BCS bowl in 2007. Remarkable when you think about it really. Overall his record was really crapty but at least they were in a bowl in 2003, 2007, 2008 and maybe this year but I doubt it.
and the kicker....you get to work for a guy who threw the previous coach under the bus and an immature an unprofessional manner.

He won an Orange Bowl and National Coach of the Year in '07. However, people forget that Mangino went 6-6 the year before and needed that big '07 season to keep his job. Last year the guy was a 4th down TD against Mizzou away from going 6-6 once again.
The cold hard truth is that Mangino was the guy to take ku football from 2-10 to 6-6/7-5, but he's never going to consistently go 8-4/9-3. Even looking back on the '06 season, there were some brutal losses to teams like Toledo and Baylor. The fact is that aside from one great year, Mangino has been an average coach. With brand new facilities and an athletic department willing to pay a football coach big money, ku's a different program than it was in '02. I have a lot of confidence that Lew Perkins will make a big-time hire at ku.

This is probably a first but I agree with BMW. They have a chance to hire a good coach and get some things done. Perkins is a good AD they're improving their facilities and the job is much more attractive now then it has ever been. Mangino getting fired from ku is not a good thing at all for KSU. This scandal type of deal is the best thing that could happen to ku because it allows them to fire him right now rather then having to give him another lame duck year in which they'd likely finish last again.
I suppose they could screw up the hire but if I were a betting man I would bet they'll get a better coach then Mangino. Of course I've always been under the opinion that Mangino wasn't much of a coach to begin with. I was hoping he would get some kind of a slap on the wrist and keep his job but the more I'm hearing it's sounding like that just isn't going to happen.

Don't worry, I'll trust in Sweet Lew to find us the diamond in the rough. He's set it up nicely to lure someone here and shown he's dedicated to football.

There is still no denying that he had the best season in the history of Kansas football. Again, that's the best season ever, not one of the best. Best ever. And he's fired 2 seasons later.

Well, first of all, 8-9 wins was completely within range this season. ku just needed to win the games it was supposed to win. As far as the defense, they have improved. They went from 87th in total defense last year to 52nd this season. The defense has actually been playing pretty well over the past few weeks. It's the offense that's been losing games with costly turnovers and an inability to get into a rhythm.
As for me, I'm not defeated at all. I'm excited for a coaching change. ku has one of the best athletic directors (if not the best) in the country. Lew Perkins has wanted to make this hire for years. I have all the confidence in the world that he'll make a big-time hire.

This is so annoying. Every year we hear about what a great situation ku is in. And what do they have to show for it? The 2007 season. You'd think they could try and keep their mouths shut until they actually have consistent success...if it ever happens.

Not so fast. You have to realize that to resurrect a football program, everything else must take a back seat for a period of years. This includes basketball. Are you prepared to have an average, to below average, basketball team? I'd think that none of the squawklander's would.

How can Sumlin be your top choice? With all the other names being thrown around, a guy with 2 years as an HC and only one good year can't be your top choice? Also, he seems like a guy with big aspirations. I would imagine that he's trying to get a sweet gig in the SEC or Big East at some point. A stop at ku would probably prolong his journey to one of those types of jobs.

I also LOVE how ku fan thinks that ku is a better job than Stanford (and they think we are hicks, LOL). Further, why would Harbaugh leave Stanford when Michigan is probably going to open up next year and they are definately going to go with a "Michigan Man", and Les Miles has all but screwed his opportunity up. Harbaugh could probably have the Michigan job today if he wanted it. Oh, that's right, ku is a better job than BOTH Stanford and Michigan, and his wife is from KC. :thumbsup:

Fat A** Perkins is a typical East Coast jackass! A lot of people think he should have been the one to go. He better hire a good coach or his Fat A** will be on the line. Next couple of ku football years will be very interesting!

Stanford has a lot more money than ku could ever have, even if they stole a bunch like Kivisto. They may not throw it down on a football coach but to think ku could win a bidding war with a school like Stanford is beyond retarded.
ku athletics just paid Mangino $5mil and cannot even raise enough to buy the shovel to break ground on their new stadium club. It ain't happening. Good thing Gill comes cheap.
