The latter.  The writing is on the wall and he's done at ku.  May as well try to bring down another program on his way out the door.  Plenty to hide in Lawrence...maybe the Two Ton Wizard will give us a look behind the curtain?

This.  He knows Lew will blackball him around the college ranks and he has coached his last BCS team.  May as well either fight back and try and protect your name for the future or try and leverage a massive buyout, which won't happen.
