Well, I was in two, and both were amazing (crapty). The first one was Asthma Machine, a band that TrustTheDust and I started in ninth grade that lasted for four years yet somehow only really managed to learn about 6 songs. That's not a very good years:songs raysh. But at least the ones we learned were dope -- a bunch of Weezer blue album songs (Undone, Buddy Holly, In the Garage, Say It Ain't So), probably a song from =w='s Pinkerton (The Good Life, I believe), and the first song we ever learned, where we learned to watch the world die with Everclear. Oh! And I forgot that we brought the noise to Rezac Auditorium in a most rocktageous way for my Mr. MHS talent with AC/DC "Thunderstruck."
I was also in a cover band called Runs 'N' Goses that was disqualified from the MHS Battle of the Bands my junior year and got probably 3rd or 4rd my senior year. Our catalog was much more expansive and ambitious than Asthma Machine's, prob because we were more focused as bandmates at that point in our musical careers than =AM= ever was. :users:
Oh, and I was in a one-off Weezer cover band called Hot Carl and the Cleveland Steamers that played a show at our friend Kyle's modestly-attended house party and then rocked onstage at Streetside in what would turn out to be the last ever in-store for them. :crybaby:
Basically, there was one thing my musical career was missing, and that was jmlynch1 on the ukelele.

Most certainly. :-X Then again, they won because they played originals, but gmafb, who wants to hear originals when you can cover Sublime's "Caress Me Down" with your drunk friend Vance onstage, in a sombrero, hitting the percussion slapstick at the wrong times? The panties just flew right off. :pirate:
Question: am I a traitor to my Runs 'N' Goses bandmates because in college I played in another band.....the KSU Orchestra......with a member of 5th quarter and we hit it off and became total bros? Thanks, I'll hang up and listen off the air.

hahah. i remember when it was "cool" in hs to hate on t-hobbs and t-oldfather. high school was downright hilarious.

I was in a band for about 2 1/2 years called the Hairy Palms. Played mostly hair band cover stuff. I played drums. Got one good song that got some local airplay back in Indiana. Bout the time it started going somewhere, the bass player up and joined the Marines. Another guy got married to a Mormon girl out of the blue. Our lead started getting a major attitude and quit soon after. Almost OD'd on heroine before getting into rehab. I moved on. Play a little every now and then, but nothing terribly serious.

I was in a band for 3 years in high school. "Random Royalty"... no idea what the name meant exactly. :dunno:
I played drums... once we played in the talent show when I was a sophomore, I did this sweet thing where I threw my drumsticks in the air and caught them... crowd pretty much went nuts :gocho:
My senior year we actually got serious and played a few parties, also played in one battle of the bands (that we lost) and did this weird thing where we toured the local colleges as part of a fall kick off thingy (actually got paid and everything :dancin: )
Then we played at some kind of summer camp for a week and later recorded the most AMAZING ep ever in our highschool band room. :gocho: Good times were had by all.
Then they stayed at Pitt St and I came here.

Was in a band in high school called Forest of Illusion (FOIL for short). You might recognize the name from Super Mario World.
We covered a few OAR songs (because we were so like them) and wrote a couple originals (including one entitled Vanilla Dome, also Super Mario World inspired).
Eventually, we broke up because our lead singer, who went by the nickname "Pubes", had to go to drug rehab (his junior year of high school). It was a very Behind the Music type way to have your band break up. Pretty elite if you ask me.
Pubes was actually a really good singer and ended up getting a full ride music scholarship to Stephens College. Meanwhile, the pianist is a History Major at KSU ( :banghead: ) .

many moons ago there was a band in MHK called C.R.E.E.P. - I made a couple of on-stage guest appearances with them on the 1200's, that's all i really got

My high school garage band consisted of me (vocals + guitar) and a drummer. We encouraged one of our friends to by a bass guitar and join the band, and he did, but we kind of kicked him out of the band because he sucked. Especially funny, considering:
My band never really learned a song all the way through besides Nirvana's "Come as you Are". I wrote a couple (seriously, like 2) absolutely brutal songs that ripped off Nirvana. I don't even think we came up with a name. We just kind of hung out, smoked cloves from time to time, and talked about our move to Seattle to become famous once we graduated high school.

Savedbycompetition's one and only real gig was a benefit for the H.S. literary journal. Three guys, me guitar/vocals, katz bass/vocals, niles drums. We played a few originals one was a song in italian with a ton of cursewords that our bassist wrote (pretty decent bassline/guitar riff double up with a heavy metal finish still remember), I wrote a song about Yossarian from Catch-22 (wtf?!) and another was a kind of ska/punk song that sucked too, don't really remember.
The last song was a punk version of Wild Thing which was resurrected as the talent portion of my winning bid for the title of Mr. MHS.
So what happened to Savedbycompetition you ask? Well, the bassist got into X and dealing, the drummer had to run more cross country before he went to an elite private institution famous for beating ku in b-ball and me? BBS'n kids. BBS'n. :steadymobbin':

prob old news but i was watching tv last night and they had some commercial for mhs or manhattan or something and they had an old mentor with the headline "katkid wins mr mhs". i was like omg! is that katkid from ksufans? i guess it was. guess it was.

Yes, and a stupid little colored light thing that spun... and a strobe light. (had to stop using the strobe light because it made the bass player freak out)

Wow. This definitely brings back some memories (not a MHK guy, just my old band in general). We were called Noodle and played for about 2 years in good ole Newton, KS.
We played an array of covers like "Learn To Fly", "Under the Bridge", "Foxy Lady", "Interstate Love Song", and "Epic". Every now and then we'd make a feeble attempt to put an original together. Pretty bad but it was fun at the time.
Practices were made up of: play for about 30 minutes, drive out to the country, get stoned, and then come back and use our "inspiration" to write the before-mentioned original songs.
Of course once college hit, we all went our separate ways. Now we're all scattered around the country. Maybe at our 10 year HS reunion next year we can relive our glory days... or not.
Now I'm just reduced to singing karaoke at random bars. :-[
