From www.netbuffs.com
KSU was 4-7 in 2004, 2-6 in the Bg 12
KSU was 5-6 in 2005, 2-6 in the Big 12
KSU finished last in the North both years and did not play in a bowl game
CU was 8-5 in 2004, 4-4 in the Big 12
CU was 7-6 in 2004, 5-3 in the Big 12
CU won the North in 2004 and 2005 and played in two bowl games
All four magazines that I bought (Lindys, Athlons. Sporting News and Phil
Steele) predicted CU ahead of KSU.
So clearly, Ron Prince inherited a program that was in worse shape than Dan
Hawkins. But after 9 games this fall, Prince and KSU are 5-4 and playing the
final three weeks for a bowl game. Hawk and CU are 1-8, lost to a 1AA and
are arguably the most disappointing team in College Football. Lets look at
what has gone wrong.
To start with, CU is 0-5 in games decided by 10 pts. or less. KSU is 2-2 in
close games. Good coaches win close games. Prince is doing OK and Hawk
is losing all the close ones. The Hawk apologists will point out that CU has no
QB. Well Prince recruited the Rivals #4 ranked QB away from Nebraska. He
is starting as a true frosh and getting better each week. Hawk is starting Bjax
and he is not developing. Prince also recruited two RBs that are starting in
their 1st year and have each had multiple 100 yard games. CU is playing a
JR and a SR. KSU is starting three frosh on the OLine. Both defenses are
performing equally well. So, the youth movement has payed off for the
Wildcats. Another theory might involve Coordinator Selection. Prince hired
his DC from Tampa Bay and his OC from Green Bay. Hawk hired his from
Boise State and ASU.
The scary part is that it looks to me like Prince is the one playing for the future.
His 6 1st year players starting on affense are only going to get better. This
being said, I would feel pretty good about the coaching transition if I were a
KSU fan. Coaching changes are always difficult and a winning record and
bowl berth in the first year of a new staff is an accomplishment.
As a CU fan, I must conclude that the 1st 9 games of the Hawkins regime
have been an unminigated disaster. Lets hope things start changing.

not true.
-
If multiple means "more than once" Patton and Johnson have both rushed for over 100 yards twice.
Patton did it against OSU and Mizzou.
Johnson against Mizzou and Iowa State.
-
I think he meant not true in that Prince didn't recruit Patton. Patton was already coming to KSU before Prince.
-
Prince recruited Patton -- that was not the done deal as rivals reported it. Prince had to win them over, and he did.
-
Patton was prepared to set up visits with both Baylor and ku, then the next day he met with Prince and reaffirmed his commitment to K-State. He did maintain his commitment to us during the entire coaching search, but he was also prepared to look around until Prince went down to see him.

visits with both Baylor and ku
good thing he came to ksu, otherwise he'd be stuck behind jake sharp

nah, he would have gotten a look at qb by now.

Somebody on phog.net called Patton a midget.
Um, we had a midget here who played from 2001-03.
I think he was pretty good.
